Need help to settle an row at work, does anybody know, are the h2 hummers that footballers drive,the same as the proper ones that go to iraq?? i was told the flashy pimp my ride type were based on a chevy 4x4 and are bugger all like the militaryones?? help!!!!

The Hummers that were used in Iraq etc were H1's. H2's are based on the Chevy Suburban latform i believe and basically use all the running gear for the Chevy.

err, yes.
I did read that the H2 has about 85% the off road capabilities of the H1

(but not with 24" "spinner" wheels and 30profile tyres wink)

I know a guy who's got one of the few road legal H1 Hummers, it's an early 90's one, and VERY different to the rubbish 'limo' H2..

May be the same guy, but there's one up the road from me, he off-roads it regularly ? (until he recently blew the engine)

Humvee (military), either a 6.2 liter or 6.5 liter diesel V8 depending on how old.

Hummer H2 (civilian) 6.0 liter Gas V8 (currently, I think it's had a couple of different engines over the years).

is the military one totally different from a domestic one? the military ones look wider to me.

probably not, as this ones a converted ex-military one, lightly blinged and civilianised.. resides around Maidenhead, berks area...

Probably not indeed, wrong side of london for one, this one is a serious (road legal) off-roader snorkle, laiden with jerry cans, full-size spare etc. Not very civilised wink

hummer = civvie version
humvee = military

the military chappie has the same tread width as the M1 abrams, (so the tanks take the mines and the squigy soldiers dont) smile

Just come across this.H2 and H3 share nothing in common what so ever with the military versions.The miltary versions are very wide due to the heavy duty chassis and load bed which is used for a variety of purposes.Mainly the installation of weapons.I.e .50 cal, M40 grenade launcher,TOW and Javeline missile systems.They dont drive like the civvy counterparts.They are very noisy in comparrison having driven a fair few.Early ones were fitted with the 6.2 diesel later moving on to the 6.5ltr.They are very cramped inside for the driver and passengers,despite the size.The driver and passengers sit in small compartments either side of the load bed.

Weren't they meant to be wide enough to drive in tracks left by tanks?
Also H3 is based on midsize chevy pickup running gear only with extra weight, hence the reason it is now available with 5.3 V8.
