Yeah but Phil you live Billing and the yeehar heroes that populate it.
ya think? i haven't set foot in an 'organised' show for nearly 2 years... (NEC not included)Copped you polishing the Z28 rims at Billing about 4.5 years ago.
p.s. Did I see it on ebay recently.
Yes. After I sold it, someone drove in front of it and the nose cone copped it so it's been repaired but I haven't seen the result. I know the guy is changing his loyalties to bikes which is why he's selling it.

Just come across this.I'm a yank owner. But as you can see from my profile,i have an interest in anything mechanical. To be honest the American car scene does'nt do anything for me at all.I find the whole show scene cringe worthy. This for many years created a stigma for me from owning an American car,i just did'nt want to fall in to that bud drinking, line dancing, yeeha, bracket.Dont get me wrong this kind of thing is accepted as it should be,back in the states. But for me it does'nt bode well in the UK.It borders on sadness.
This topic seems to suggest that there is only one type of American Car show and one scene, there are many diverse types of show such as pre'49 only Rod Runs, Mopar Only Drag Racing at the Nationals, Flag waving Yee Haas at Americana, Lowrider meets, regular club meets, and the list goes on.
When I owned the Charger I went to alot of Mopar meets, rarley saw a US flag flying and the guys in the MMA are some of the nicest and most helpful you'll meet. The club and meets are invalauble for parts and advice when running at 40 year old car as a daily.
I guess you just need to choose your shows and your club carefully

Doesn't seem to apply to drivers of other nationalities' cars though, does it?
True enough. Maybe it's to do with the number of cars that are sold only for the US market. It's a two-fold thing; the cars are usually instantly recognisable as American and also the only place you're usually likely to own one is in the US. Their rarity outside those shores makes them more associated with their country of origin, whereas something like a Honda or a BMW are sold everywhere. If you're looking for some way of advertising your fandom of Americana [or just doing it for yourself], the car is as essential a part as the country & western CD in their glovebox and a Stetson! To turn it around, I wonder if Elises in the US are being bought mainly by car-fans or Brit-o-philes?

I quite like Smirnoff vodka, but Russian cars are pretty ropey and I can't afford a MiG29, so that's me screwed! i always fancied a spot of raping and pillaging!! Valhalla i'm coming! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! *waves axe in air*
For no particluar reason I'm gonna pi$$ of all mopar traditionalists. I kept the rear quarter SE emblems off my old '74 charger (which was also listed on ebay recently...matt black 440, claiming to be original motor which it wasn't), polished them up, re-enamelled them, and will be sticking them on my pimped up black Saab SE estate.
Somehow I missed this thread developing.
We fall into the American enthusiast catagory, rather than the American Lifestyle.
We do enjoy going to shows but we don't generally bother with the lifestyle type events.
Though they sometimes come bothering us....
You Cowboys & Indians play nice now yer hear..
I just enjoy using the cars whenever possible

Luckily, the group of guys I hang out with on www.rebel-v8.com are all into the American car scene and really like to use their cars/trucks.We regularly do some drag racing and cruises but only do one or two static shows such as Billing NSRA and the NASC Nationals in Ipswich.
I like the fact that someone who runs an old Caprice as a daily on a budget can still hang around and have a good laugh with someone who has a 10 second street truck with a fortune invested in the engine.
As mentioned in a post at the beginning, there are plenty of events, cruises and meets that cater for all kinds of car owners.
I quite enjoy blasting around doing TunnelRuns with the TVR and Ferrari guys (dont think they like me upstaging them with the Saleen noise though )
