I,ve been to a few shows, met the DA, blue 'turn up' jeans, and leather jacket Brigade.

Found most of the ones I met, didn't actually own an American car!

I travel to the US on holiday and business regularly. What works over there, usually look crass, and out of place over here.
definatley... its a different country..the perfect example of that is the stretch limo, the absolute height of tack and bad taste here...

Sort of like how IROC stickers on the side of an LG4 Berlinetta would be seen over here?

Sorry, couldn’t resist..lol

BTW, stretched limos are sneered at here as well.

Actually, I’ve been having a bit of a laugh reading this thread; quite amusing to see how we’re perceived by some people; many of whom probably don’t even possess a drivers licence.

What’s with the fukin Indians dressed up like roosters at a car show; that’s hilarious.

Ice cold Budweiser isn’t too bad of a beer in hot weather.

I don’t know anyone who line dances.

After a few hours of standing around the pits in 95* weather with no shade and not a cloud in the sky you will gladly wear a Stetson - they have their uses..lol

I expect that the US lifestyle players in the UK are about as spot on as a collection of Japanese Elvis Impersonators out for their weekly piss-up in Tokyo..lol

Have to agree on the hat thing. After spending quite some time in Texas with a rather sensetive balding head and walking about in the middle of nowhere with allsorts of stuff scampering around my feet. I do now own a Resistol hat and some quite "tasteful" Luchese boots. Being out either in the pits or sat in the stands at a race in 100*+ heat is just not an option for me without a hat, and after sitting one row forward this year of a rat snake that had decided to curl itself up into the gods with us, I'm pretty happy that my choice of clothing appears sensible when in Texas. Although I draw the line at having to drive a truck with a gun rack!

I do wear my boots here I guess and my Camaro hasn't even arrived in the country yet, but then they aren't ridiculously garish and unlike some I would never tuck my jeans inside them! My hat has made a couple of very special appearances during summer only at outdoor events when a baseball cap really wouldn't be appropriate. Somehow though I can't see me ever getting into that whole "grow a white beard, wear a wolf print fleece, stars and stripes cussions in the back" type of americana. It does make you wonder how many of these people have actually ever been.

The fwd Alfas are a pale shadow of the Alfas past. Why not a nice 166 though?

simply on running costs, i'm about to move, and will have a 50 mile a day round trip to commute..

my first choice would be a 166 V6 (and i could get a bloody nice one for £4 - £5k) but its even thirstier than the mustang, the 156 seems to be unreliable according to people on carsurvey.org which is a shame, as i really like it.

i tried to get a test drive in a 147 yesterday, but unfortunatley i went to a car supermarket and was greeted by a wall of ignorance and rehersed sales pitch..

after that rather unplesant experience i may just stick with the mustang for a while.. incidently the 166 is my desktop wallpaper, its such a beautiful elegant car..thumbup

i absolutely love the GT, but the 2004 - 2005 ones are still up around 9k, and without taking out a loan (which i dont really want to do) i have about £5k to spend..

i'm prob gonna keep the mustang for a while and see how well the GT ages, apparently alfa have done a lot of work on durability, if they still seem reliable in a couple of years i may look at it again..

the 147 is prob gonna be too much of a compromise, i prefer larger cars.

its terrible though, all these people 'living the dream' in their 10 gallon hats and covering their cars in confederate flags simply dont realise the damage they are doing to the american car image, i honestly feel embarrased when i see day vans coverd in tacky low taste flags and frilly bits, because i feel their plastic elvis image is brushing off on how people percieve me..

especialy in the political climate we have, its definatley influencing me slightly, i dont want to be seen as one of these people, i'm just a normal guy who happens to drive a mustang..

Not sure a Monaro is a total change (chevy V8 etc) but didn't work for me hence now having a Mustang - depends what you're after but I would think long and hard about it - I made the wrong choice and lost out as a result financially. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good cars about but if you like American cars it is difficult to find a replacement.....as for people judging you, they do that whatever you drive - BMW/Audi/Porsche/Alfa.....there are stereotypes for all of them!!! smile

thats something that concerns me, all of the cars i have in mind as replacments are still depreciating, my £4 - £5k will be less than £2k in 18 months..

of all the potential replacments, i reckon the golf GT TDI is probably the most sound, but kinda lacks passion... thats why i like the idea of the alfa
