Very nice indeed. Much as it galls me to admit it, I feel the Challenger has made the transition from concept car to production car rather more successfully than the Camaro.

Those shots have been all over the web, but I would imagine there's a way to go before the final release is seen. It even says so on the white photos. Also, the colour does it no justice. Someone on another forum Photoshopped it to a different colour, andd it looked stunning.

Yep, the white seems to hide a lot of the angles. There are still likely to be a few detail changes to the car, and it's not due to be launched until next year, so there's still a fair bit of development to go.

It looks really good on the road, especially in red. Usually I am not a fan of red but it seems to go well on the challenger.

Ashamed to say, I think I prefer the lines of the new Challenger to the new Camaro...

However ... (takes deep breath) much as I love muscle cars and covet a black on black sixties Mustang Fastback, is this the wisest way forward for an ailing American auto industry, look back, rehash, add better shut lines, brakes and servicing intervals, and milk nostalgia?

Is the future to be left to the Japanese, fine engineering to the Germans?

The Mustang seems to have worked well for Ford smile

As long as a manufacturer doesn't put all their eggs in one basket so to speak, it needn't be a problem.

GM for one has various partnerships going on [including a promising one with BMW] that puts them at the cutting edge of alternative fuel technology... though it may be a few years before that pays off.

Indeed, these are halo cars for the manufacturers, and whilst they'll be expected to turn a profit they are not designed to save the companies.

Is this a last hurrah before we dive into a depressing world of diesels and hybrids? Maybe, but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

I used to subscribe to their sister publication; Road & Track.

Paper-based, worked out at about £1 per issue, iirc! bow
