New on here so please help me out if possible,
I would love to own a challenger SRT8, been in contact with dodge in NY and they wont sell to a non american citizen, my thoughts were i could get an american citizen to buy the car then i could import myself.
To buy one from some of the importers over here , like ACI, it would cost about 46k GBP, but if you walk into a dodge showroom in america, you would pay about 37k USD i think.
I know nothing about importing, taxes, nothing about tests etc.
Is this a total non starter, or does anyone know a way this can be done.
Any help or advice would be appreciated
Regards
Steve

a few from the viper forum have imported, some through a trusted Dodge dealer in NY whom we have met at different events and regularly buy off, the easiest way is to get a mint used/low miler, saving on VAT, import duties this end a bit to. No such restrictions then buying 2nd hand, or like you say a freind with a US residence

i looked at a daytona RT 5.7 V8 last year, these can be had for around $32K quite a bargain

Hi Steve

if only they were $37k!!!!! list is $43 on most of them and no one is selling them for less than $10k over The three we have secured have all been around $12k over list- have already missed out on some because the dealers got offers over $15k over!!!

Still it is worth doing yourself if you have the time and inclination. It will save you our profit of around £3k. Just beware the sales tax which the dealers may not tell you about but undoubtedly will want to charge you. Also we know for sure that Chrysler are really watching where all of these cars go and do not want ANY being exported so the dealers are a little more cuatious about selling for export.

Thanks for the replies:
To mr 51st state, if my maths is correct, you would be selling for approx £31k GBP ? i see what you mean about having the time, which i dont really, it would be a nice achievement to do it yourself and actually save some sheckle.

I like the idea of buying a 2nd hand one, how would i find one used from america from the uk

www.autotrader.com the select the American flag at the top. there wont be any deals on any used one until about september as the car does not hit showrooms until march/april.

And I think it's safe to say that the used ones will still be over list at that time!

Generally to protect the UK dealers. I know the UK won't get the Chally but they want the home registrations I guess where they count.
