Alpinist. Still undecided on the best strap.

Love that Alpinist. Though at the price, got some other watches on the shortlist.

I get that. For £400 I could order a beautiful bespoke modified Seiko but I've hankered after one of these for a long time. This, with metal bracelet, leather strap and nato included, wasn't too bad.

Seems like a good price at the moment....

Anyone got one?

Yes, buy it, you won't regret if, it's a great watch for that price and the pictures don't do it justice, the dial is sunburst deep blue.

This may upset Seiko fans, but:

Old SKX009 on a tired and cracked rubber strap

Many youtube videos later, followed by a buying spree of tools and parts: it's got a new bezel insert, on a gunmetal bezel and a new leather strap with comically large buckle:

Polished gunmetal chapter ring and funky second hand are waiting to be fitted when the last tools I've ordered arrive...if I grow the balls to actually try changing them. paperbag It's a bit more drastic than a bezel swap - even though the wonky chapter ring and misaligned hands are what kicked all of this off.

In the meantime, the 009 is one of my faves, so I got this thing to replace it:

It's a Deep Blue Nato Diver 300....came on a rubber strap which I've changed, and has a Seiko NH36 movement, sapphire glass, 300m depth and helium escape valve for all the good they'll be for me. Also, it's slightly larger and SO much nicer to look at - the photos do the colour no justice at all.

Just sold mine. Not a big fan tbh, I ordered the blue one but I think the black one will look better in the flesh.

The bracelet let it down immensly as it was very rattly, my main gripe with Seiko in general.

Anyway, was a bit underwhelmed by it.

I like the bezel and insert. May I ask your source?

Sure - this guy: https://one-second-closer.com/
Be warned: that site is a rabbit hole. I've already planned my next 4 mod designs, which means I'll have to buy more SKXs, a turtle and maybe a Vostok. hehe

I started off using Google translate on their online order system, but got stuck with the green edging finish. Then emailed them and they pointed out that this was a special request in an extra box at the end of the order process when you pay. Did this and came through OK. Took a few weeks mind. Can dig out their email if you'd like.

I'm wearing one right now.

Add around £30 tax to the Creation price.

It's a nice watch, I wear it daily.

I've pm'd you the bit that details specifics from the original email they sent me. Should get you on the right track.
