I’m getting married in a month and wanted to do something nice for my dad on the day, so I’ve had his Seiko serviced and cleaned. He bought it in Japan in 1972 when he was in the merchant Navy and wore it for a while until he bought something else and it’s pretty much sat in a draw for a number of years. Ultimately it’s going to be handed down to me when the time comes. I’ve always liked the style of it but was never a huge fan of the bracelet so I’ve bought a couple of leather straps (I’ll be wearing the brown strap on my wedding day) and will wear it on nice occasions. The jeweller is a mate of mine and we both agreed to keep it as original as possible and not to remove the scratches and dents which have occurred over the years and the patina on the face was staying too. It’s part of the story and history of the watch which I like. It’s not monetary valuable by any means but is one of two things I would grab if my house was on fire so it means a lot to me. We’re not 100% sure on the model so if anyone can shed any light it would be appreciated. Pics are from the jeweller as I’m due to get it back in a few days.
I believe that's a Seiko 6119-7080. On the back you'll see that stamped up the top. Down the bottom will be a 6 digit number, with the first number being the year it was produced. Make sure you hang onto the bracelet if it's a Seiko original - you hardly ever see them with it still on! I've got the black dialed version, the '72 6119-7083.

Thanks mate, looks like it’s the same and I do have the original strap too which is exactly the same as yours. Didn’t know they did a black faced version, looks very nice smile

This was it pre clean:

December 1971 serial number, so makes sense he bought it in Japan in '72.

Indeed - per my post on the 'Watches under £200'. This one has a sterile dial, but they're all the same I believe.
(This came in a 'Steeldive' case)

I like it a lot, wears nicely even on my skinny wee wrists.

Pretty happy with my Chinese copy of a late 70's Japanese dive watch... £125 on eBay, commonly available from source for under £150.

6105 'homage' (copy). Runs a Seiko NH35 and is keeping good time. Would rather a domed crystal, as I find they pick up fewer smears than flat, for whatever reason. Otherwise - love it, and my Monsters are taking some time off.

Very nice David. I much prefer the look of them with a leather strap as opposed to the metal one smile

I've got one as well, but with the different hand set. Absolutely gorgeous watch but almost impossible to read the time on it!

Is it me or are all these watches like dinner plate sized (unless everyone has really small wrists)

Anyone seen the new 5 range on sale yet?

Really like the new design and want a blue face and bezel model.

Snda57 today just to make a change from the usual auto divers that seem to get worn all the time.

Great watches and seem pretty hard to get hold of now.

I've got mine on a brown leather strap at the moment but I like the look of yours on that colour strap.

Pretty happy with mine. It came with AR coating on the crystal which I didn't like so changed if for one without. My crystal is domed. Wearing my quartz Monster at the moment though.
