Seems to be although the last battery was a cheap Ebay one so only lasted 18 months. I've popped a proper Seiko one in this time for about a quid more.

Swapped the rubber strap out for a titanium bracelet, rubber was a bit 'nippy'/sticky for me...wasnt sure about the black case/silver bracelet, but actual i like it works well with the ceramic bezel, that glints silver & the reflective face...

I want one.

Then I looked at the price, I'm good smile.

1973/1974 Seiko QR. These were introduced only three years into quartz watches becoming a thing, so quite early for a quartz watch.

The faceted crystal can make it a bit weird to look at. It needs a new crystal, but not too bad otherwise.

Anyone recommend a silicon / rubber strap for a 1st gen monster?

Had the original and it was horrible.

Here's a non-issued 1997 RAF Gen 2 I picked up recently.

Identical in every way to the issued watch, except it doesn't have the caseback stamp with broad arrow and NSN etc.

Here it is next to an issued Gen 1 (dates to Jan 1990, and was issued in 1990 - Operation Desert Storm time maybe)

This just in smile

Huge but wears great.
The rubber strap is the most comfortable I've seen. I'm keeping it.
The one on the SKX came off the week after the watch arrived.

Same.

The Monster just feels so solid and high quality. I have had many other Seikos including the mini-monster and that 50 fathoms clone, but they just didn't feel to be of the same standard. This is definitely a keeper.

Strangely, after over a year, I dug mine out and am wearing it today. It has to be the best value for money watch on the market.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of NATOs in general but this one suits that watch I think.

Me neither, NATOs aren't my bag, but I do rather like that,

Another vote for Bonetto rubber, I'm very happy with the couple of 284s I have for my SBBN031. Really poor lighting however here's the red strap... It looks grubby and discoloured, it isn't!

SBBN031

It was the SKX779 that first pushed me down the slippery watch slope around 10 years ago, on the bracelet I'd say even now that it's one of the best value watches I've ever owned. Really like those RAF Seikos as well, I've a (new model) Newmark 6BB however those Seikos have always held some appeal.
