A question for the forum. I have had for the last 15 years a Monster. The bog standard stainless with black dial and bracelet one. A friend likes it and I have tried finding one on the internet. I bought mine from Creation Watches and Jumashop and they are out of stock. Is it now discontinued? Seems strange since it is bombproof and as divers watches go damned cheap.

Monsters are still available in Gen4 form but are now a bit less rugged in looks.

Best bet is a used gen1 or gen2 imo

I wouldn't know which is which but this is mine that my friend admired. I think I paid £120 for it.. Still got the box and eggshell it came in.

A nice collection you have there, especially the face colour on the bottom two. I see what you mean about the difference on the last one, and if I had the choice it would be Gen 3 with that face colour. My first Seiko was a present from a family member who was in the navy and brought it back from Hong Kong in 1962. Sadly we went swimming and the strap broke, but that was years later. I must have owned thirty Seikos over the years with diversions into Breitling and IWC but always come back to Seiko. Such value for money. I have a Dawn Grey Prospex sitting in the drawer unused which was a present for a service rendered but I have never got the strap adjusted. I must get around to doing that and give it some wrist time, but I just love the ruggedness and simplicity of the Monster. I wear it 24/24. And even if one day I lose it, well, I'll be sad but it isn't the end of the world. There will always be another, and if my ship comes in it'll be a Spring Drive SBGA229G. But why no day and only date for that money I don't know. Anyway, thanks for bringing me up to date.

Nice watch. Do those have fixed bars between the lugs? I've changed my CWC navy diver from the standard grey NATO to a grey perlon recently. Now it will fit under a shirt cuff smile

Asked for suggestions on the rubber strap for the monster... I wasn't convinced that I'd actually like it off the strap, so I stead of heeding the advice and going for an expensive one, I picked one up for £6 off eBay to give it ago.

Other than the spring bars it came with being too short the strap it's self is very comfortable, clasp isnt bad.

I'm still not convinced I prefer it to the strap but it's certainly more comfortable..

Mine has been for a service (inherited it recently) and will be back in a few days. Seriously impressed by Duncan aka The Watch Bloke's work.
