The second crown controls the inner rotating compass - I just hadn't lined North up at 12 when first trying it on eek

ah, i see. what's the compass used for then, calculating bearings or something? I mean if it isn't an actual compass

It's a good question, and not one I know the answer to.

Good job I'll be mostly sat at my desk whilst wearing it!

You can use any analogue watch to find North and then I guess a compass bezel would allow you to navigate to a specific bearing.

Gorgeous. That's on my list. Getting an original is quite difficult these days.

Well, it's not too hard but they're getting quite expensive. eBay is literally 99% full of fakes or dossed up watches that are being pushed by shysters. A good, original, serviced Pogue will probably cost you £800+ these days, and if you want one with original bracelet and a dial with text at 9 o'clock and which isn't knackered, you're into 4 figures.

Got this back from Seiko.

Must say, was very very impressed with the service, especially as I wouldn't say this is an expensive watch compared to a lot they sell.

The guys at the London Boutique were great, made a fuss over the watch when I dropped it off, which although unnecessary did make you feel like I had some taste.

They sent it off at their expense and the service centre called to say they had it, they then called a few days later to say they were sorry for the Covid related delays and did I want it to be sent to my home address as the boutique was closed due to lock down, again at their expense.

They also gave me a detailed explanation of what had happened to it (magnitised) and that they had sorted it. When it came back it also came with a little booklet on how to avoid it happening again.

Got it sent to my recorded delivery in a really nice little travel case.

All in all, top service and far more than I expected for a warranty claim which in the scheme of things isn't a very expensive watch.

Had it back for a few weeks now and it's well within spec so happy.

Still love the look of it.

Yeah, definitely convinced I want a GS now after the service I've had from them (even more so after spending a day driving around central London watching my mate get fobbed off by every Rolex dealer).

It’s always good to hear about a good service experience.

I’d imagine the service level you get on a Grand Seiko would be even higher!

Hi

Where did you get it serviced? did that include a bezel? I have my orange face watch which my dad gave me in I think 1970. I will post a pic. I asked someone if they could repair it and was told no parts were available.
I think that model came after mine?

This is my first Seiko with I think the original box and stickers. Is anyone doing repairs or can supply a bezel? I have no idea how much these would be worth if restored? £200?

Any guidance appreciated.

I got my Pogue serviced by an amateur watchmaker who's in the process of setting up as a full time watchmaker, so I don't want to give his details out too widely just yet. Other Seiko specialists would include Duncan 'Watch Bloke' or Rich Askham - you could try one of them.

Why do you need a bezel? Cosmetic reasons or has yours stopped working? These guys could certainly get the watch running again, and worst case, might be able to source a donor for parts if required. The thing is, you'd spend more than the watch will likely be worth when it's finished, so it's a labour of love rather than a way to turn a profit (for the relatively common or garden Seikos at least).

Thanks for that. I will look them up. It is for sentimental reasons. I have some of my father's and uncles old watches from the 60/70/s and just got my uncle's unworn 1970 Marven Watch serviced and the gold strap shortened.
I thought changing the bezel would freshen up the watch. It still works just not that well. Needs a lubrication service at least.

Just in case some one wants one

Someone is selling a Seiko Kinetic charger on eBay

Nothing to do with me, and giving it the correct power as Japanese might be an issue.

I think a grand is reasonable for such a cool watch. I love the honey colour.
Yours looks new!

They've been around for a couple of years now, they're called a 'mini turtle'.

Oh, I thought it looked a bit different. Wasn't aware of them.
42mm does sound reasonable, how does it compare to the SKX?
