That’s a thought, the crystal is hardlex wonder if that could get damaged?

There are tutorials. Should be fine.

I’d consider an upgrade to double dome sapphire anyway, not difficult to do and not expensive.

I have pre ordered one of these.

Managed to secure a 10 percent discount, so it’s an automatic GMT from a respectedish brand. Decent reviews online, some of the watch specialists are a little excited about it. I'm not sure about the cyclops, but will judge when it arrives in July.

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-travel-ready...

Just read these are friction bezels. I’ll buy the movement and mod I think.
Quite like this. Although would prefer without cyclops. Found it for £300 and very tempted!

Interested where you found the new SKX for £300! I went to see and very nearly bought an Alpinist for £600 a few weeks back but couldnt bring myself to it... one of these might be a nice cheaper alternative (although I'm not usually that into GMT's, these are on the subtler/smaller end, especially the black).

My latest - a Seiko SNE527P1. Plain, simple, accurate. 100m water resistance and sapphire crystal. There's even a subtle sunburst effect on the face.

Reduced to £110 in the H. Samuel sale. It would be rude not to!

Got this on Friday. The jubilee is a big improvement on the quality of the SKX. Orange isn’t too bright.

I wish more Seikos had sapphire crystals. As soon as I got my first little scratch on my gen 1 black monster crystal I was really annoyed.

I often have to carry large equipment boxes through buildings for work and my watch will regularly get bounced off a door frames and metal doorknobs. I'm now all about budget friendly watches with sapphire crystals and ceramic bezels with Seiko NH35 movements. It's prime Chinese Cronos and San Martin territory.

Watched a few reviews of the new GMT. Don't think it's for me. The bracelet seems ok but not great (pressed clasp???), friction bezel is a weird choice, don't love the hand set (GMT hand is too big), have never liked the italic 'automatic' script they use on the dial. I also think it is a weird choice to have a 24hr scale on the dial and the rehaut (but I do like the GMT rehaut).

The bezel inserts look great, I hope they do that in an elapsed time bezel.

Also, the cost of these is within striking distance of my Mido GMT which is a local jumping 80hr GMT with sapphire, milled clasp with push button micro adjust, ceramic bezel....

I will definitely be buying one of these movements for my own build though.

Just arrived. Released this week, SSK003K1. Calibre 4R34

Basically an automatic gmt at a great price. Feels very nice on, good bracelet with solid links, hardlex bezel, subtle sunburst dial. I even don’t mind the cyclops. Clasp could be a bit better but for £360 I don’t care. It easily looks as good as a £1700 Otis for instance.

Edited to add a pic or two taken in the sunshine

That looks very smart. And a bargain at that price. My cheap Seiko keeps the best time of any of my autos and I think I need one of those now.

In glad you like it. I tried them all on Wednesday and was even more disappointed in the flesh. The Zulu Time GMT was disappointing too.

I did like the SPB301 a lot though!

Each to his own. It’s no Grand Seiko but IMO is pretty decent for a £360 daily driver.

It’s of course totally functional and it is one of the better Seiko Bracelets (top 5 I’d say), but the design choices do nothing for me.

I’m really looking forward to building one to my taste. Will wait for the parts supply to settle down.
