Each to his own. It’s no Grand Seiko but IMO is pretty decent for a £360 daily driver.
It’s of course totally functional and it is one of the better Seiko Bracelets (top 5 I’d say), but the design choices do nothing for me.

I’m really looking forward to building one to my taste. Will wait for the parts supply to settle down.
I envy the patience of anyone able to build a watch. Sizing the bracelet which took 3 mins was fiddly enough for me.

I have to stick with watches made by others.

You should try it, I enjoyed it.

Wonder how long it will be until Steeldive etc are using this movement. Really opens up that market for proper GMT homages, even if you don't have the local jumping functionality most people wouldn't know (or care).

This all day long. It's utterly absorbing. And it needn't go to the lengths of building from parts. I started out by buying non-runners on evilbay and sorting them out. Even something as simple as a Kinetic which will often only need a capacitor and a good clean is deeply satisfying, especially when you end up with one of the most accurate watches around.
Disclosure: my daily for many years has been a yellow dial 5M62 Kinetic which I love so much I sold my Rolex SeaDweller which was just not being used. Plus the Seiko easily outperformed the Rolex by any practical metric.

(Although I admit that the tiny (and very pretty) Citizen Solar I fixed up for my daughter made me sweat a bit).

My latest - a Seiko SNE527P1. Plain, simple, accurate. 100m water resistance and sapphire crystal. There's even a subtle sunburst effect on the face.

Reduced to £110 in the H. Samuel sale. It would be rude not to!

Lovely.

For me they work so well, what size is it?

I tried on a 6159-7000 the other day, the high beat diver. Pretty cool watch, can't believe what they're trading for.

I know my limitations with fiddly stuff and jobs that take more than 45 mins

I had the SLA 025 for a while. Lovely thing but couldn’t find a strap I liked that worked with the heft of the watch. If there had been a 19mm crafter blue I’d have kept it.

I swapped an Enicar SherpaGraph Mk III for a Seiko 6159-7001 a couple of years ago, and it's a hefty old thing but feels like it's made from solid granite. The gold details and the smooth sweep of the hand are a thing to behold.

I didn't like any of the rubber straps I tried and instead put it on a leather rally strap - heresey, I know, for some diver fans - and I think it works really well.

Just arrived. Released this week, SSK003K1. Calibre 4R34

Basically an automatic gmt at a great price. Feels very nice on, good bracelet with solid links, hardlex bezel, subtle sunburst dial. I even don’t mind the cyclops. Clasp could be a bit better but for £360 I don’t care. It easily looks as good as a £1700 Otis for instance.

Edited to add a pic or two taken in the sunshine

That looks (& sounds) great for the money! Not surprised they’re selling out.

I'm a bit of a sucker for Bell-matics, which can be a bit expensive as they often need a service that costs a lot more than they're worth.

Here's a nice linen-dial 4006-6010 from May 1970

Highlight on this one is the enamel dial and the nods to one of my grail watches, the Credor Eichii II, which I’ll never own. Namely the crescent moon counterbalance on the second hand and the blued hands. The dial looks flat and the hands black in the first pic…

…but in this one you can see the undulations in the dial around the date window and hand stack (presumably as a result of the manufacturing process) as well as the electric blue tint to the hands.

That's lovely! The I love enamel dials, I feel like I should have more than the one I do have.
