Let's see your Seikos!
Discussion
My father always had a tendency to buy Seikos. When I was growing up in the ‘70s and early ‘80s he had a Pogue which I loved. Unfortunately he managed to break it beyond repair. Anyway, he tended to buy cheaper models after that, dabbling with Lorus and Citizen.
When he passed away in 2009, he had a Seiko Kinetic which my mother gave me. It has never been my favourite of watches with its lightweight, quartz movement and grey and gold bracelet. But for sentimental reasons I kept it.
Anyway, one day I put a battery in it and removed the bracket for a black leather strap. It started to grow on me, and as I had become a bit of a Seiko fan myself with my SKX009 I thought it might make a decent beater. But I still wasn’t convinced on it. One day, I put a Milanese strap on it, and all of a sudden I began to really like it. It was at this point my partner (who never met my father, and who never wears a watch) took a shine to it. I love the fact it has connected her to my dad. It’s an odd thing, but it just makes me feel like my dad is part of our family again. Silly, I know, especially for such an inexpensive watch, but the fact she wears it all the time (despite having bought her a more expensive watch years ago which she never wears) just makes me feel good.
I love my SKX009 and it is on a sharks tooth through the winter, Nato strap for the summer.

If you really like the SKX, the Strapcode.com stuff is on another level in terms of quality.
I've got my SKX009 on their Super Oyster and it's brilliant.

Oh, thanks for that. Always fancied it on an Oyster as I have my MHD CR1 Panda on one of those and really like it. I bought a blue rubber strap for the SKX009 and alternate that with the Nato in the summer. I must admit, I've always struggled to get on with this shark's tooth strap, so I will give these guys a go. I like the curved ends to meet the case. I hate having the gap!I've got my SKX009 on their Super Oyster and it's brilliant.

Putting the 009 on that oyster turned it into my daily. The curved ends are brilliant and as a whole it feels a lot more solid and less rattly than the bracelet it came with. Even including the bracelet, it owes me less than 250 EUR, and it beats some of my watches that cost multiples of that.
I'm tempted to order the Super Engineer now just to switch it up.

Obviously, I would recommend it. It looks and feels like a more expensive watch
Damn.
Black would definitely age the best
The blue is fasionable
The orange gives some much needed flair.
I think I need all 3.
I can't decide which, and this thread isn't helping

My very first watch was a Timex on a leather strap. (it was the late 70s) My wife has tried repeatedly to find me the same model. The watch is a link straight back to my mum teaching me to tell the time. Simple objects can resonate very powerfully.
Enjoy the watch and the memories!
When I worked in Japan about 25 years ago I bought a load of older watches - if I saw one for sale in a second hand shop, I’d buy it - here are 2 of the seikos and a citizen. The middle one is battery operated but the 2 blue faced watches are automatic and still work perfectly - I don’t know much about them - can anyone tell me about them ?

I really like the Seiko on the right, it's definitely my kind of thing - is their a model / serial number on the back..?Edited by swanseaboydan on Friday 10th February 12:10
It’s a lovely watch in the flesh - smallish dial by modern standards but really lovely blue - I’ll take some pics of the serial no on the back when I’m back home - I have some AKA Alba watches from about 26 years ago - bought them new as I liked the funky designs and colours - are they a seiko sub brand ?
