Very pleased. Put it straight on to a leather rally strap for now. Think it really suits it.

Well - who'd have thought?

Picked this one up yesterday

Watch 105/500

The "regular" Fifty Fathoms is going to help pay for it, but I'm properly chuffed.

That's a beauty - what variety of Fifty Fathoms is it?

Thanks. Love them - should have bought a vintage one when they were vaguely reasonable.

I would say I wear my Polish Navy one more than any other watch.

Just ordered the new Alpina AlpinerX smartwatch on a whim; I'm a sucker for ana-digi dials! That said, I've never really been in the market for a traditional smartwatch. This latest release from Alpina is a bit different. Aside from the features below, you can customise the colour of various components to your tastes and more importantly, the battery lasts 2 years! No overnight charging. smile

I've designed 3 colour schemes so far, of which I need to pick one by the end of April. No.1 is what I call 'Sophisticated Silver', No.2 is 'Namely Navy' and No.3 is 'Tissot T-Touch Replica' hehe

1.

2.

3.

Which one should I pick? tongue out

No bloody wonder, have you seen the size of the battery?!
A 30mm CR3032 – that’s as big, if not bigger than most movements are, quartz and mechanical.

Does seem highly odd, especially as being owned by one of the biggest watch companies – Citizen.
Can’t quite fathom the rationale for putting this one through KS rather than their AD network.

Here’s their take on why they’ve gone this route…

By now, you’re probably asking yourself why such an established brand is on Kickstarter. Alpina carries a long history of innovation and collaboration. Back in 1903, the Alpinists, a group of watchmakers and retailers would get together to decide on the future designs.

We feel that Kickstarter is the modern version of that heritage of collaboration, where YOU are the Alpinists. We want to offer the Kickstarter Community the chance to give us their feedback and thoughts about the AlpinerX. We want to strengthen our sense of community and involve YOU in the project. Together we can make a difference.

Modernity and innovation is not only about technology, it’s about people. Forward-thinking has always been our motto and we now feel like our customers and community should be at the heart of this evolution. Help us to offer the key to modern-day exploration with an outstanding timepiece. Help us now to reach our summit together.

The piece will be available through ADs once the Kickstarter campaign has finished, but the retail price will be considerably more. I personally wouldn't pay retail for this watch, but the opening Kickstarter deals were hard to turn down - After all, it is a Swiss made Alpina! I reckon I'll wear this more than say a TAG Heuer Connected, or the latest Hublot smartwatch. To be honest, I didn't see myself owning a smartwatch at all!

However no matter how big the battery is, the ability to use it without charging the watch every night is a huge bonus, imho ... smile

Doesn't say very much, IMO. It sems as if they aren't confident enough in the concept to put their own money behind it.

That’s how I interpreted it too. It’s no secret that the Swiss watch industry is trying to influence a younger audience; the orange PP Aquanaut, the TAG/Bamford Monaco, Hublot smartwatch ... Perhaps this was Alpina’s method at being cool? ‘Cos all the yoofs be backing shiz nowadays!

Never seen these before, and really like the one shown, that is currently open for pre-order. Never having seen one in the flesh, or tried one on, I just emailed them to ask about the potential returns policy if I don't quite like it. I prefer a bigger watch, but that said, the 42mm might look ok. Do they only sell direct, or do they have UK dealers?
It arrived today. Of course had to pay some import fees (in the EU).
Looks great. Bigger than I expected but I've got 7.5" wrists and I don't mind a bit bigger watches smile.
