Love thatI don't wear it too often as it sits a little large on my wrist but I certainly enjoy the 70's vibe when it comes out the box.
Incidentally I noticed ex-Top Gear script editor Richard Porter wearing one in a YouTube video the other week.

Gentlemen, I bought two watches today. The first was planned, the second I couldn't resist.
The planned one is a Grand Seiko Snowflake. I've always wanted one of these and it really doesn't disappoint. This isn't a great photograph, it needs a much colder light or sunlight to really make the most of the dial.
The second was very unexpected. They had told me that one of these was in stock when they emailed me about the Snowflake, but I didn't think I'd be that impressed. It's limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide (I think), and they seemed reasonably genuine when they said that they hadn't expected to get any more in, ever. A lovely gentleman (with a very impressive collection of cars back in Dubai) appeared to buy the other one as I was there.
Again, the lighting in the photo is poor, but it's beautiful. The movement is incredible too, almost as lovely to watch the second hand as the Spring Drive.

Not new by any means, but I traded my IWC Portofino Chronograph (plus a few pennies) for this yesterday, and I love it. It's got original receipts, Chronometer certificate, service history and 3 books about Zenith!
Nice looking watch... very nice.Has your arm got hairier between photos?

Ooh I purchased one of those after seeing someone on here post theirs (all too familiar story!) - I ditched the bracelet immeadiately and put it on a beefy leather strap

Indeed, there's a perfect leather strap that I've seen on Watchgecko that will work a treat with it. I don't wear it too often as it sits a little large on my wrist but I certainly enjoy the 70's vibe when it comes out the box.

Tale of woe
None of that really makes the high street jeweller look bad imho. It certainly doesn't sound like you got the "they all do that, sir" treatment. You did say that it seemed like they didn't know a huge amount, but hey, not eveyone is a super watch geek.
May be be i'm just getting too balshy in my old age....
With apologies for the dreadful sale pic, here is a lightly-used Rover & Lakes automatic that I bought for €20 yesterday (€25 shipped).
R & L are a house brand of the biggest German department store, Galeria Kaufhof, and these went for a few hundred euros. I have a number of rather nice R & L shirts that have served me well, let's hope the watch does too! Better pics to follow if anyone is interested.
Research points to it having a Chinese movement (Seagull?), we'll see.

Been after something green for a while and thought about an Alpinist, but stumbled across the Recraft SNKM97 today and after a bit of Googling got it for a silly low price.
Love the '70s feel about this and can't wait for it to arrive.
This is rather cool, I want one... can you post a linky?Love the '70s feel about this and can't wait for it to arrive.

I looked it up... SNKM97https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-watch-snkm97.html
That's actually a lot cheaper than it looks... seriously tempted now.
Edit: Ok, after reading this writeup, it's going on the list!

Indeed, silly cheap and worth paying some more for a decent strap. Can't wait to see it all come together. Something totally different! 😎https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-watch-snkm97.html
