Well, the Ombré is finally incoming after some shenanigans where my credit card had been cancelled due to a security breach somewhere I had previously used my card meaning I was alas unable to order it after my self imposed 1 week cooling off period hehe

Excited to see it in person, the size is a concern (43mm yikes) as my wrists are decidedly un-PH (a touch under 7.5 inches, around 18.5cm)...

I tried on a friend's MVMT (I know, I'm breaking him in to the watch world slowly) and it didn't look ridiculous, so fingers crossed it doesn't look like I've strapped an antique wall clock to my forearm getmecoat

My wrists are 7" (although I wear watches a little loose, so maybe 7.25), and my preferred size is 42-44mm. It very much depends upon the case as to what works.

My Steinhart is 42mm, but with quite flat lugs. I've not looked at a CW closely to see the lug shape, but f they're fairly flat, then 43 may well be about the limit. If they curve down, and therefore around the wrist, you'll be fine with that size.

BTW, & FYI, the MVMT did look ridiculous.wink

Touché hehe

I'd say I'll post a picture, but I find all watches look huge whenever I take a picture of them on my wrist, must read the thread again...

I hate you Pistonheads .... I hate you watch forum.....

Following a great effort from February to November I have reduced the collection from 24 to 14 watches,
The final plan is to reduce this to 7, 2 in the safe as "specials" 4 in my watch box holder thing and one on the wrist,
"I mean … 7 watches is enough for anyone … right?"
I may have fallen off the wagon and ..cough.. made a purchase banghead
I hate my horology addiction,

I hate my horology addiction,
This all over.

For years and years I had three watches.
1) A G-Shock that got worn every single day,
2) A chap piece of bling from DisneyWorld (didn’t know until I joined PH but it looked like a Rolex Datejust just with Mickey Mouse on the dial. Explains all the MickeyMouseRolex jokes I used to get).
3) My late father’s cheap old Pulsar.

Then the G-Shock died and I got quoted £90 and sending off for 3 weeks for a new battery by some ripoff merchant and I dipped in here for the first time.

I now have a silly number of watches including 3 G-Shocks, a rotation of 6 dailies and 3 more incoming over the next 6 months:
Aviator smart watch - duty free tat from the plane which will be a stocking filler
Deep Blue Nato 300 diver
And Christopher Ward Trident 600 (probably)

And a whole bunch of tools and parts enroute to modify my Seiko SKX009.

All of this is a direct result of me coming on here in 2012 to find out if a 90 quid battery change was a pisstake.

Before I knew anything about watches, I wanted a Rolex Submariner. Then I learned about watches and became a bit of a watch snob... avoiding Rolex and buying Omega and Panerai and others - but I couldn’t shake off my desire for a sub, so here we are. It’s easy to understand why it’s such a desirable watch for many.

i think shunning a Rolex for an Omega or Panerai might be classed as reverse snobbery!

My Boldr Venture arrived on Monday. I’ve been in hospital since early Tuesday morning for elective surgery, but I did take a load of iPhone pictures of the “unboxing”. I’ve nit had change to wear it yet as I’ve stuck with my Suunto while I’m in hospital.

Pros: it’s nice and light, the branding isn’t too “heavy” and I don’t find any of the fonts offensive! It’s a no fuss watch, it’s legibel and the lume seems ok. It’s not Seiko bright, but what is? It was £76, or £93 including express UPS shipping.

Cons: second hand is a bit hit and miss, mainly miss... I got stung by UPS for fees, totall8ng £27 - I thunk the actual duties were about £8, the rest was “admin fees”.

Anyway some pics:

Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Magnate GMT, purchased at a 50% discount from one of those flash sales websites. This is my first automatic, I figured I’d go for something tough enough to stand up to a bit of abuse as my young son has been known to wander off with any watches left on the bedside table but may have overdone it here. 7500 G anti shock, 4800 AM anti magnetic, -40 degrees temperature endurance.

It’s a nice size at 40mm diameter and 12mm thick, somewhat offset by the “tank mode” bracelet clasp that is nearly as thick as the watch. Overall really pleased with it.

It’s made from titanium, so it’s pretty light. I’ll be giving it a go once I’m out of hospital. The operation all went to plan. I’ve now got ANOTHER scar (on my hip, where the bone graft was taken from) and bending or straightening my torso is... interesting! Leg pain has really settled down too, which is good news.

I’ve had a browse on the TZ-UK Sales Corner today and mentally, spent a few grand, mostly consisting of sub £1,000 stuff, although the Heuer chronograph at £3,100 was a bit of an outlier!

Happy to oblige, hopefully you can make it out on the phone camera shot. Numbers, indecies and hands are tritium with regular lume on the bezel. It’s not bright but it is persistent. I know the tritium is a bit of a marmite feature but I’ve found it genuinely useful and for me it just adds to the value of the watch.

Thanks, cheered me right up, that has!

I’ve a cheapo Uzi branded tritium watch and you’re right, they’re not “Seiko bright”, but the6 do retain the same level over night (as long as the tritium is still “working”). The different colours I’ve always thought were pretty cool.
