I have one of these arriving today, I hope.

I've been looking for quite a white for a silver or grey sunburst dial watch that looks a bit more sports than dress watch and didn't cost too much.

I found this one, which I think must be a recently discontinued model, as it's being offered new, at a sale price, by a few retailers - (RRP £770, I got it for £460 from Jura).

I think I'm going to put it on a black rubber or sailcloth strap, as on the bracelet it's a bit much, but i'll see what it looks like when it arrives.

Looks great, really like these. Tried one on at Bicester Village of all places. Very tempting as I too want a lighter dial watch.

Incidentally has anyone got experience of the Timex Q Reissue? Quite like the green/black.

Cheers.

I had to change the bracelet, pulled the hairs out of my arm and wasn't too keen on the look anyway.

Nice!

The dial pops much more on the strap, with all metal bracelet and case, it gets a bit more subtle.

Thanks. I definitely prefer it on the strap.

Nice. It looks like a different watch on the strap, and a lot better for it. I'm looking for a sports watch around that price point, so this will go on the list.

I’d be trying to see it back to back with the Longines Conquest IIWY. That really is a lovely thing, if slightly above budget.

It's the 12 and 6 that put me off those. Probably because I have three Magrettes, and they have large cardinal numbers. I'm erring towards simple batons this time.

The Longines was the other one that made it onto the short-list - I agree it's a really attractive option and I did try it on a couple of times.

In the end though, it was a degree closer to the dressy end of the scale than the Certina (the Longines has a highly polished bezel where the Certina has virtually no bezel and more brushed steel on the case), and I was looking for sporty rather than dressy.

Also - and I know this is a bit daft - whatever I bought I knew I was unlikely to wear on the bracelet, but the Certina bracelet is just about OK, whereby the Longines one has polished centre links which puts it into the unwearable category for me.

The quartz version of the Longines can be bought new on a really nice curved end rubber strap so I asked the dealers, and also ended up emailing Longines directly to ask about buying the automatic version on the rubber strap - thus avoiding paying for a bracelet I wouldn't use. The dealer's response was - "it comes on the bracelet, that's your only option. If you want to, buy the rubber strap as well". Longines' email response was totally opaque. Didn't really endear them to me.

So, for me, the Certina fitted the brief better, and had the bonus of being significantly less costly too.

(I do still like the Longines though)

Just picked up this 70s Seamaster chrono - Often incorrectly referred to as the “Jedi”. It needs a new crystal and is a little beaten up but not bad for £850 and it’s all original. Still undecided whether to move it on, just wear it as is or have it serviced.

Another lovely piece. Fix it up and keep it.

That’s the current thought. New crystals are around £50 so not too bad, but I’m not sure if it will need a new bezel too. They aren’t expensive either but it seems tricky to find silver ones - loads of blue ones about though.

Picking up an Explorer tomorrow afternoon. The lady on the phone asked if I was still interested in the watch & they were updating their lists. A few questions about why I was after this particular model & what I currently wear must’ve been answered satisfactorily as it was only then revealed the store had the watch in stock & I could make an appointment to pick it up. I guess they’re trying to root out the casual flipper, fair enough I think.

Funny how that sounds perfectly reasonable, yet the last time I asked a stranger on the phone what they were wearing it didn't end well. yikes

Had the same yesterday from a WOS group AD. I was on their list for the Two Tone GMT Root Beer and one has become available. Collecting tomorrow (for the Mrs this time around).

Speculative and to be fair a little rich for me but I've been offered this for just over £6.5k by a good friend of my brother. I'm guessing he's looking to liquidate during these times?
Worn once apparently.
All papers etc.
I can afford to buy it. Whether I can afford to keep it is another matter! Mrs TH would notice pretty quickly re money!

Worth keeping until the 50th anniversary next year as a punt IMHO, I quite fancy a black one to go with my polar version wink

Perhaps Laura is a little more understanding than Mrs TH? smile
