I met up with an old friend in France today - and a fellow watch collector. Funnily enough we supped a beer or two talking about Omega Vs Rolex. We both own both.... I think I prefer Omega, I'm a huge fan.

Yeah, I think I’d agree. I’ve always loved Omegas - it was a fake Speedmaster that got me into watches! And the current range has some very good looking watches that I’d love to own.

Over the last ten years or so I’ve only really owned Rolex; mainly because I really like them but also because you know your money is safe and they won’t drop by a grand as soon as you leave the shop. So you can sort of have an expensive hobby but not lose money doing it - unlike if you buy new Omegas etc…

Anyway, versus the SD43 I really think it holds its own!

The current range of POs is very nicely finished and detailed, a totally different beast to the 2500s. I like the red and white a lot, nice watch.

Oops! Took a watch in for servicing today and came out with this….

I love this watch. Beautifully finished, built like a tank, excellent in-house movement. It just wears huge on my girly wrists, sadly, as it is so thick as well as being broad. If they did this one in the 39.5mm version, I would have one tomorrow.

Post a night shot! The illuminated bezel is properly special...

Yep, that's properly cool.

It’s definitely a chunky monkey, but not outrageous. I’ve been wearing a BB58 on a NATO for the last month and it’s very noticeable the change from compact and lightweight to heavy and, dare I say it, cumbersome.

The colourway and size mean it would be difficult to have as an only watch but it’s seriously nice.

My favourite thing about it isn’t the incredible lume which glows strong even after walking inside after a few minutes outside, or the glass case back revealing the fabulous movement, but the way the AR coating gives the dial a huge depth. I don’t know how to describe it but it gives the illusion that from glass to dial is about an inch deep with the hour markers being tall and incredibly well defined. Love it.

But also been loving my BB58….(expensive year so far!)

My Omega love continues….

Went for a PO GMT to go alongside the White/Orange. Much prefer the looks of the white dial but the GMT function is useful for work. It’s also a bit more suitable for all occasions - the white face is a bit ‘in your face’.

The glass case-back is a really nice touch on these.

Also picked up a titanium Bond Seamaster for my brother. Have to say, this watch is fantastic! Lightweight, comfortable and I even like the fauxtina and the Broadarrow. On the Milanese bracelet these look fantastic. Unfortunately the RRP on these is…. eek

Have Omega finally started selling NATO straps with Titanium fixtures? My biggest grip a while back was everything looked shiny SS so wouldn't match my brushed/satin Ti Seamaster.

Hmm, well it certainly matches the case and feels warm like titanium. Goddammit it’s a nice watch……wish I’d got one of these instead now! Although just noticed one of the strap loops has ‘007’ marked on it; which is a bit naff.

I'm not fussed on the display caseback on the GMT. Overall though I find it to be a fantastic watch. Very comfortable.

Mine is a very early 00s pre PO one but that looks like a great match!

As we seem to have a diver thing going on, I bought this recently. Panerai 683, which at 42mm wears well for those of us who aren't built like Arnie.

I also have Rolex and Omega divers. I'd rate the Panerai second to the Omega SMP in terms of build quality, and on a par with Rolex. When you factor in the cost, the Omega for the money, is unbeatable.

I like that Panerai! I’ve never owned any of the brand but maybe should give them a go.

Regarding build quality; I was impressed by my white/orange PO but this one has a very disappointing bezel action (I know, it doesn’t really matter). It doesn’t click consistently and sounds different turning to the left compared to the right. Even a Tudor GMT isn’t like that.

I am a fan. I have the Good Planet version - essentially the same.

I prefer yours! That’s what I wanted but it’s no longer made. How’s the bezel action on yours? I’d describe the clicks as inconsistent on mine and wondering whether it’s normal or not.

Mine isn't inconsistent, but it is a little easier to turn than I would like.
