I prefer yours! That’s what I wanted but it’s no longer made. How’s the bezel action on yours? I’d describe the clicks as inconsistent on mine and wondering whether it’s normal or not. Wills2 said:
Not as well proportioned though (too tall) and no better built but it's more shiny with the ceramic dial and bezel.
I would say the build is quite a bit better and as a product it is overall better thought out and executed. They are so different in ethos though that the comparison is fairly limited in scope. I like both of mine for different reasons, I’ve worn my 2500 like some people wear their Seikos. I think the current 39.5mm would be an interesting comparison to my 2500.

The clicks feel fine.... when you say inconsistent, what is yours doing or not doing? I'm sure Omega would take a look at yours if it's not quite right. It appears to be pressure sensitive. So if you sort of lift the bezel a little it rotates smoothly, riding over the notches but with no clicks.
If you press firmly down you get a similar feel - positively riding over the notches but without a click.
If you apply neutral pressure (ie. turning it normally) it clicks (and sounds cheap ‘n’ nasty) but inconsistently, such that turning left it maybe clicks between 12 and 8 then doesn’t click between 8 and 4 and then clicks back round to 12. Turning to the right sounds completely different and sometimes feels like it’s skipping over the notches.
If this is how it’s supposed to be it’s not acceptable. In fact, it’s the worst bezel action I’ve ever come across and reminds me of when the bezel click springs broke on my Sub Ceramic.
I think it’s too loose so will go back on Monday to see what they say. Can’t say I’ll be impressed if I have to send it away to Omega after owing it for a couple of days…
Edit: It’s not like the bezel on my ‘dive bezel’ PO,
but I don’t know if it’s supposed to be with it being bi-directional. It’s st anyway.

Mine positively clicks away, solidly, whatever pressure is applied.
It is massively annoying that you might be without yours for an extended period - maybe they'll swap it for a new one? Maybe.
Try to put it out of your mind if they take the watch in... easy to say... but it's worth getting it fixed and it is a superb watch.
ETA - whereabouts in the country are you? I am in Hampshire, you'd be welcome to compare.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at yours! I’m too far away to compare but hopefully they’ll another one in the shop to compare with. Mine positively clicks away, solidly, whatever pressure is applied.

It’s not like I’ll be left without a watch, in fact my Sub is ready for collection on Monday so it’ll be nice to wear that again. But still frustrating and takes the shine off what is a very expensive purchase.

Interesting. And googling the issue seems to suggest it’s a relatively common problem. There’s definite lateral movement in the bezel as well - not much, maybe half a mm, but can’t say I’ve ever noticed it on other brands before. Definitely sloppy QC. Or poor design. Not impressed either way. Both my PO bezels sound ‘tinny’ when tapped and aren’t a patch on the Tudor BB58 I’ve got with me here. And the SD43 is a different league entirely.
Let’s see what the dealer says!
I have a Rolex Hulk incoming. Very weirdly, it belongs to a very close family friend (dad's generation - his best friend from school). I have known the watch for years. He was bought it by how wife for a big birthday, new, he has worn it a bit, and he is selling his watches as his two daughters are not interested, and he will be leaving them more than enough anyway.
No box or papers, but pretty much a gift as he has asked for a donation equal to its original sale price to a Parkinson's charity. He suffers from the disease, and his condition is worsening. I shall be paying them more than he asked me too, I think.
This is actually a pretty poignant thing. He is really my second father, and when my own Dad died a decade ago, he and I were the principal pall bearers, and he has been a guiding light in my life before and after that. He stood in for my father at my wedding, for example - he is family in any meaningful sense of the word. Watching him decline is like watching my dad's long illness all over again.
This watch will never be sold by me. I too have two daughters, like him, and I hope one of them will be interested in it one day. If not, it will go to one of my godsons.

What a poignant story to go with it

It’s nice when you know the history of a watch like that. And watches seem to be one thing that even people who have no interest in them seem to cherish when passed them by loved ones. The fact it’s a very desirable, valuable watch makes it even more special. Enjoy! (But do be careful with it; I’ve already mentioned on here how I nearly lost mine in an attempted mugging. They do attract attention - good and bad.)

Oh great.... as a watch fan and an Omega enthusiast, I was feeling irritated on your behalf! I am a bit surprised that Omega QC let the watch go out with an obvious fault, but glad it's been sorted without any drama.
Yes, it’s a bit of a shame that it slipped out as it is. I’ve had a few Omegas and it’s the first time I’ve seen poor QC so it hasn’t put me off - not yet. I don’t know to what extent the ‘no-hassle’ exchange was because I’ve had five watches from them in four months…..it probably helps, but I’d like to think they’d do the same for the person who’s buying their first thing from them.

As we seem to have a diver thing going on, I bought this recently. Panerai 683, which at 42mm wears well for those of us who aren't built like Arnie.
I also have Rolex and Omega divers. I'd rate the Panerai second to the Omega SMP in terms of build quality, and on a par with Rolex. When you factor in the cost, the Omega for the money, is unbeatable.
I really like the Panny. Shame about the lack of case back, I'm a sucker for them!I also have Rolex and Omega divers. I'd rate the Panerai second to the Omega SMP in terms of build quality, and on a par with Rolex. When you factor in the cost, the Omega for the money, is unbeatable.

i'm sure someone else said on here the other day that Omega was higher quality of workmanship than Rolex... maybe it was wrist check.
It's a close run thing. Rolex rarely have an exhibition back, Omega routinely do. Rolex movements are well finished but rarely seen, Omega movements are built to be seen and I think the finishing is better.Crumpet said:

A whole new watch, or a new bezel? I am going to have to visit my local place and see if mine can be sorted. One of those things I haven't got round to through various lockdowns.Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
