As you've identified your not a 'watch' person,
Consider where/when your going to wear this
Going to be your new daily/only watch or kept for 'special occasions' ??
As Doofus said ... it's an expensive watch for a 'non watch' person
Do you consider this a once off treat for yourself purchase (you've earned it or do you expect it to make/keep value,

Personally I'd consider it a no for a 'special occasion watch due to it's (currently in vogue fashion) green dial .. but as a daily wearer where you have the inner knowledge that your wearing a .. to you fantastic hard earned 'reward' of a watch .. then yes,
Of note Breitling = nice quality watch, To the market = Depreciation like a big french executive car
Of course Doofus has just bought a Panerai and I've just got a Ulysee Nardin .. so we're hardly responsible posters for advice
I might have bought another Panerai after the Panerai I've just bought....Consider where/when your going to wear this

How ... I can understand making that mistake once ... you know ... like that time with a fat bird ... but how do you go about make that mistake again and buying another Panerai ... (refer to a previous thread) I decided that a 45mm Blacpain FF was a bit too big, and I wasn't sure about rose gold anyway.
So I might have bought a 42mm Panerai in rose gold(tech) because it's smaller than 45mm.
Yes, I know, 'I thought you weren't sure about rose gold?'. But (to use the fat bird analogy) I was set upon by both 45mm and rose gold and I could only handle one of them so I did 'eeny meeny miney mo'.
WTF is "GoldTech" anyway?

I have a green Submariner on Teju lizard. It's an, erm, acquired taste.
I recall, was gifted to you by a close friend if I remember? I have a green Submariner on Teju lizard. It's an, erm, acquired taste.

Thanks - to you and to Doofus. Very helpful to get different perspectives on this. Consider where/when your going to wear this

Usually I wear a plastic sports watch. It’s dawned on me that I don’t do as much sports as I used to. I could do with something a little bit smarter for a variety of reasons, and there’s always a reason I can come up with to treat myself!
This is as you both say quite a bit of money. I’d assumed that’s the going rate but probably should look around a bit harder to see what else is on offer. I have a soft spot for dark green - some of my best and favourite cars have been dark green. And this wouldn’t be bought with an eye on selling - it’d be for me, forever. Maybe if I acquire a son-in-law at some point they’d get it eventually.
I’ll look around a bit more. Those firstclasswatches ones look pretty good, I must admit.
Thanks again.
If buying Breitling, I'd buy second hand. I always have. You save a tonne, and the only one that needed work had an ETA (generic, common internals) movement and was fixed for very little by a local watch repair place.
If the watch is almost new, it may still be under warranty. I'd check if that is transferable to you.
A couple of years back I bought a bi-metal (gold and steel) Breitling Superocean II, unworn but two years old and thus not the very latest model, for around 60% of the list price. Bought from Chrono24 with no issues. I have bought several watches, privately and from traders from the site, all with no issues.
Look for that watch on Chrono24, and see if there are savings to be had.
I gently disagree with the chaps on the green face. I think as a dial colour, like blue, it will always look good.

And we are all watch nerds, so happy to share our experiences. Tap into that before spending thousands!
A PHer, who has since become a friend, advised me brilliantly on my first significant purchase, on this forum. He has also furnished me with plenty of useful non-watch related life advice since (thank you, NDA!).
Also, be careful. This becomes an expensive addiction...

This is a corner of PH to which I never come because watches don’t really do it for me.
However, that may be about to change. I stumbled across a Breitling that to my untutored eye looks fantastic - a Chronomat GMT 40 (I think) with a green face.

This is actually a watch worth buying though? For reasons set out about, I really couldn’t be more of a newbie at this.

These guys used to give really good discounts on Breitling but I think things may have changed!
They were great when I bought from them (collected me from the station, gave me lots of other “stuff” and were very friendly)
They’ve been VERY into Breitling for a long time.

When you say "A PHer, who has since become a friend," do you mean "Bad Influence"

To add .... That Breitling is a 2022/23 release with few/none on grey dealer discounts, Green dials also appear in vogue at present, It'd be good to ask/get a 10% or more discount but it's probably on par with other similar watches (Omega etc) price wise,Usually I wear a plastic sports watch.
