How long does a watch refurb take? I'm not able to take advantage of your services as I'm not in the U.K. But an idea of time for a similar job on a similar watch would guide me when seeing if I'm being taken for a ride.
A couple of hours labour if done right. For my customers I offer a 24 or 48hr turnaround depending on how busy and what time they drop off ctrph said:
Great work as always.
I have seen so many of those boodle style rings with really bad finishes on the rubover settings, so nice to see one finished properly.
We get a lot of those Domino scatter mounts through in rough cast. The platinum items are impossible to finish to a satisfactory level. You really need to use a dedicated finishing workshop for those. The gold items are pretty simple though. I've only just set up an account with Domino and haven't seen much of their stuff in the flesh yet. I'm always fascinated by watching jewellers like yourself work their magic, especially when its with stones I've sourced (I'm a gemmologist). My jeweller prefers working with gold than platinum.

Many do. Platinum is harder work and requires a great amount of heat to solder. It's also pretty much a single use metal as it doesn't like to be remelted. If you cock it up then you've blown any profit on doing it again.I'm always fascinated by watching jewellers like yourself work their magic, especially when its with stones I've sourced (I'm a gemmologist). Personally, I prefer platinum. Despite the graft it's a far superior metal.

I'm thinking either white gold or platinum
and a nice large diamond, how much are yellow diamonds, i believe her size is a J but id have to check
also can you diamond encrust a watch?
Gold or platinum is good. A large diamond we can do if you are accepting of costs. Yellow diamonds can be expensive, but then again they can also be cheap. Size J is possible but please do check. and a nice large diamond, how much are yellow diamonds, i believe her size is a J but id have to check

Yes, a watch can be diamond encrusted. Either tastefully or distastefully.

Well I'm not wealthy or rich but I'd like to have something "personal" that hasn't just been bought from a generic shopYes, a watch can be diamond encrusted. Either tastefully or distastefully.
On the watch front Sir, may I ask if it is possible to place a precious or semi-precious stone in the crown of a watch?
It my seem a little odd but the watch in question is a black ceramic 33mm Chanel J12 with pink Sapphires and the original existing crown is stainless steel I believe with a black enamel/ceramic and for a special present on a I was wondering if a colour matching precious or semi-precious stone could be mounted to make the watch a little more special.

Possibly, yes. I'd obviously need to see it to make a decision but most things are possible. Here's a couple more jobs. 2 from today and one from yesterday.
The first is a 2-tone wedding band made using the customers scrap gold (some 9ct yellow, some 9ct white):
The second job is the adding of a platinum and diamond band to a large marquis diamond engagement ring. It's difficult to find wedding bands that sit well with large stones, but we have a solution. We can also add an eternity ring at a later date using the same method:
And the job from yesterday.... Making an 18ct and diamond eternity ring to fit a rather worn engagement ring. She'll need a new engagement ring mount at some point but we can make that to fit later:
