Selling a Rolex on eBay - what to look out for.
Discussion
Use it as a shop window - nothing more.
State cash on collection only, remove postage options and have local pick up only.
Put in the description a carefully worded way of getting across that you are open to other methods, or it is 'advertised elsewhere'. You have to be very careful with this- ebay scan all listings, and certain keywords/phrases will get the listing pulled.
Genuine/established buyers know the score and are usually happy to deal off ebay.

eBay can work fine if you're careful.... I've just bought a gold Zenith... Saw it listed, contacted seller, asked how much he wanted... He gave me a figure, I counter offered.... We met in the middle
I drove down, inspected, and was happy it was as advertised and handed over the cash... He was happy, I got a good deal

I was just about to post pretty much the exact same thread as the OP!
I've just knocked £100 off mine on the PH classifieds and will give it another week before looking at other options with dealers or the dreaded eBay.
I must say the whole eBay selling thing makes me very wary as there are just so many ways to get scammed unless you are absolutely pinpoint with what you will/won't accept.

I would advertise it on there but, as mentioned, state that it's cash/BT on collection only.
I have sold watches >£1k on there without problems by insisting on BT before postage but for a watch in the region of 2.5k, we both agreed meeting up would be better. Guy came to my house with cash and it was fine. I'd say if you're not happy with any of the buyer's responses, re-list it.

I'm not sure you have the option to exclude PayPal anymore?
You could try restricting it to Collection Only, which would make it more practical to receive cash, but that will limit your market to those local or willing to travel.
No you cannot. You could try restricting it to Collection Only, which would make it more practical to receive cash, but that will limit your market to those local or willing to travel.
However, stating local pickup only and removing all postage options is effectively a way round this, plus also how you word the description. You can make it very clear but without getting the listing pulled.
Only a certifed loon would accept paypal then allow pickup, given the massive chargeback/dispute loophole that exists with that.

You could insist that anyone interested contact you first and then arrange the whole thing off line, to get around paypal.
That's how I have done it every time. ALWAYS insist on face to face and cash paid in at the bank with you both present. If they won't, lose them, there are plenty more buyers. You can;t refuse to take PayPal in your ad or eBay will not accept it; you just need to word it right...
