Discussion
I have just entered the world of Rolex ownership, it was a gift from the family this weekend.
I am very very chuffed, so now i have a Rolex, any advice on what to do, how to care for it etc?
I have a couple of other watches (Seiko) but nothing as exclusive as this, i can't stop looking at it!
Will have to take some pictures of it too.

that is a great combo
just keep it clean, so once a month, more if you like, make sure the crown is screwed in thumb tight, run it under the tap and then get a tiny bit of soap on your finger tips and clean the watch.
I hold the bracelet and angle the links out so i can get in-between the links better too. Also do the clasp and the end links/pins area quite well.
Ideally you would get the bracelet only removed and put in an ultrasonic cleaner once every few years or once a year if you think it needs it.
Really though, people wear rolexes and do nothing but a quite rub on the shirt. These are very tough watches. The advice on cleaning is only a small preventive measure to try and extend the life of the bracelet. You may find after 10 years you have bracelet stretch. Essentially years of accumulated dirt which attracts grit and sand to stay With constant movement the pins wear down and the holes bore out creating a floppy bracelet. That is the reason for the ultrasonic clean as it removes dirt where soap and water can't get to.
That is the 101 cleaning guide you asked for. If you did nothing you will probably be fine and may end up with a slightly loose bracelet after 7-10 years which sits a bit angled on the wrist.

Will Rolex polish it when it gets serviced then? Was only planning on wearing it for special occasions as was worried about getting scratches on it.
The bottom of my seiko's are all badly scratched due to the way i rest my wrists on my desk when typing at my laptop
Noooooooooo do not save it for special occasions ....wear the bloody thing every day of your life and enjoy it. They are such tuff watches, don't worry about it ....enjoy it, show it off .....it's a travesty to leave it in a draw !!!!The bottom of my seiko's are all badly scratched due to the way i rest my wrists on my desk when typing at my laptop
Handsome watch by the way, wear in good health

They will unless you specifically ask them not to. It will come back absolutely as good as new. If it's been back more than 3 times (so 20 odd years old!) I would probably ask then not to do it again as obviously metal can only be polished so many times before the shape of the case begins to change...
As to cleaning; warm water, washing up liquid and a very soft brush to get the crap/DNA off it. It's water resistant, just make the sure the crown is screwed in (but not overtightened - the seal is rubber, not a metal-metal seal so no need to screw in too tight).
