Haggling in the likes of goldsmiths

Out of interest, does the employee discount scheme include everything the stores sell, e.g. Rolex which has seen a big change in attitude towards discounts, particularly on the more popular models, over the last 5 years or so
No in a word, that's the catch. The goldsmiths discount is available only for online purchases so no Rolex and no properly limited editions. djc206 said:

Cheers. Makes sense I guess - if it's not in limited supply and it's not something tightly regulated by the supplier, they may as well offer decent employee discounts which are great for the employee, add to the profits of the employer and result in more sales for the supplier. Win win win
I don't work for goldsmiths it's a discount through an unrelated employee programme. Most of the stuff we get discounts on you can get through quidco etc but a lot of high street shops and supermarkets we get decent 5-10% discounts in store. I bought an Omega from Goldsmiths for £550 about 20 years ago. It had just gone up to £590 and I'd been saving up for months (during which it was £550). When I asked if I could have it for £550 cash they were happy to oblige. That said, these days everyone seems to be on a backhander to sell you credit, so things may have changed.

I think it's a given. I got a discount on my Longines in Fraser Hart.
Obviously you don't get a discount if you want 0% finance etc.
I think the official line re Rolex is that the ADs are not allowed to discount...
On stainless steel sports, certainly. It's not too hard to get a few quid of a precious metal model, but it seems hard to get as good discounts as yesteryear.Obviously you don't get a discount if you want 0% finance etc.

I just got 22.5% off and 4 years 0% in ernst jones, those that don't ask pay for others discounts
Really? I smell BS here, and if not, only because the price was grossly inflated in the first place. However, if haggling's to be done, Goldsmith's - of all the 'High Street' retailers - is the place to do it.
Just to bring this back up to date. Spurred on by what Barry said, I went and bought a Orange Bezel Full size Planet Ocean Chronograph with 22.5% off list and 4 years interest free. They said their maximum in store is 20% but after a haggle and a phone call to an area manager that was the deal I did.
Collected it yesterday.
