I spotted a Rainbow Flyback in a shop window today. Complete set in good, clean, condition. Priced at £2995 but willing to sell for £2500. Good price?

Sounds a little toppy, but which dial and with bracelet or strap?

If you're not buying it I might be interested and would appreciate details.

Watches.co.uk have one too, but it's slightly marked and won't be reduced for a few weeks if it doesn't sell at £2995.

Plus they probably won't reduce to £2500.

Never heard of them, are they a spin off from Zeitner Watches, those watches you buy on drip, advertised at the back of Womans Own magazine?
I thought they made washing machines

If it's tidy, that's a fair price.

With apologies for the lack of an actual image because Photoshop is down.

I had one of these on my "watch bucket list" for a long time, and finally bought one a few months ago. As somebody has mentioned above, I wanted to own an El Primero powered watch. Sadly, a Daytona is out of reach.

Hah. I first looked at that and thought it was horrible. But actually it's quite cool isn't it.

If it's complete with a reasonably recent service, then probably reasonable for a trade sale at 2.5k. £3k would be far too much IMO.

It would also depend on the condition of the case, overpolished or original.

Which bezel insert it has, as there are several slightly different ones, original being nicest IMHO.

Whether it has the T or dot dial, the marks either side of Swiss Made at the bottom. T numbers age/yellow and the lume's not as good.

Whether the bezel is straight or not wink

I'll have a closer look next time I'm in town. I'm surprised these aren't more highly valued.

Paid £2300 for mine via TZ last summer so £2500 seems a decent price.
As for the original question- I wanted a Daytona for my 10th anniversary wedding present... tried one on and it was a bit of a let down. So went back to the drawing board. The Rainbow Flyback was something I had seen years ago and liked the look of- did a bit of research and bought with the intention of using as a "special occasion " watch. I don't think I've taken it off more than twice in almost 18 months. Haven't ever seen another in the wild. Fantastically engineered watch that is very comfortable to wear, great to look at and attracts very little attention from the non-WIS crowd.

Funny how some people in this thread seem to consider ignorance a virtue.

Still, they've probably heard of Rolex, so who needs to know more, right? rolleyes

D'you know, having collected for 20 years and spent the last fortnight yet again with the NDsub I keep preferring as the daily beater, bought condition 2 from a semi-pro German dealer on Chrono24 years ago, I'm beginning to think your Rolex comment could well be right. It puts me off buying anything else and makes me think of selling all the others. Hmmm.

Fortunately these WIS phases don't last, tho there has to be very little more pointless than a watch collection. Erm, yeah. Sorry. A pen collection. That's definitely more pointless…..

Out of interest, which posters are you referring to?

There are certainly plenty of posts saying they were ignorant of how well Zenith are rated, but I haven't seen anyone dismissing them because of that?

I said I didn't know they existed and they aren't really my cup of tea, but I'm glad I found the thread and am now more aware of Zenith watches and how good they are.

Mostly those saying things like "Are they sold in magazines?", "Are they related to the Washing Machine company", etc.

This is a watch sub-forum, imagine saying "Oh, I've never heard of Mercedes. I thought they were part of Ssangyong" in the main part.

Maybe something was lost on me when I read those posts.

Surely a pen collection becomes LESS pointless as it grows? wink

I have a Striking 10th and I wear it on a strap, I also have a bracelet that is so well made. It is funny but anyone that sees it loves it, I was recently somewhere where the Daytona was the watch of choice so nice to be different.

My Zenith strap (sharkskin I think, with a deployant clasp) wore out very quickly, and a replacement was a couple of hundred pounds! Eventually I just bought the bracelet (which weirdly was nearly the same price) and it's in perfect condition several years later.
