Morning!

Rolex GMT-Master II 116710BLNR "Batman"

I'm looking to pickup one of these in the next few days. Emailed local AD and they say company wide out of stock and 2 year waiting list.

I can buy one from a local jeweller at a premium, retail was £5950, can pick one up for £7200 or so. (Unworn 2016 model apparently)

My question is, if i pay £1k+ over retail - is this justified. Is it likely to hold its price? Or am i buying something that will sell at £4k in a couple of years.

(yes i know, buy it because i like it not because it will hold its value etc etc)

Is there a price increase coming which will justify paying over the odds? And are they discontinuing this model?

There are a few available on ebay at the £6.5k mark but i'd rather buy from somewhere i trust.

Thoughts appreciated, cheers!
Ok so when i started this thread, i bought mine for £7150 if i remember correctly. Sold it and got daytona. Sold that and would consider another blnr. Chrono24 says they bring £10,000 now!!!!!

Moral of the story, keep your SS rolexes. What a wally.

Happy days, got one new in the Middle East for my son on the day he was born with his name on the papers/warranty, currently it is sat in its coffin, fully stickered up with the box, bag, receipt and papers in storage, never opened and unlikely to be for at least another 16 years. biggrin

All I can say is he'll get it at an appropriate time, if he becomes a tree hugging hippie I'm having it! Haha

The battery tends to leak over time.

My AD has officially confirmed the Batman as we know it is no more, plus the Black GMT too.

There is no news on their replacements as of yet, we’ll have to wait for Basel, but very very likely there will be more SS models joining the range with the new movement etc, just have to wait and see what colour bezels/dials they will have!

So if the above is true, and they are discontinued, What do you expect the values will do?? They already make a premium!, How high could they go?

This was my understanding. Its the movement that being discontinued not the bezel.

Could be wishful thinking on my part of course, given I would do some pretty degrading things to get one at retail price...

Blowers selling one today, without papers, for pretty much £10k...

It would have been £11k with papers aparantly.

Rolex just announced they will be continuing the Batman with a new movement and the Jubilee bracelet.

As someone who bought one a few months ago, I'm trying to convince myself this wont have much of an impact on residuals, but i'm not convinced.

Oh well, never buy watches as an investment!

Not necessarily. The Oyster strap will always be the more popular of the two in the long run and you can't swap them on these new ones.

All depends when they might release the new movement on an oyster and what Bezel it might come with but I am certain the demand will always be there for the Batman on a Oyster, new movement or not.

But yeah always buy to wear and enjoy, if it holds or gains in value then it is a nice bonus.

Most of what I'm reading is saying that original Batman will see a price increase as a result of this Jubilee update.
