This arrived a couple of weeks back and have to say I love it.

Really does have a nice quality feel about it, even down to the strap.

Know what you mean about seeing them in the flesh first, was looking at Junghans online for a bit then tracked down a stockist when I was in Toulouse and was left a little underwhelmed by them.

Not the case with the Stowa though. Go for it, don't think you'll be dissapointed.

One of these:

It has to be the Roman as the Arabic numbers make it look prosaic. I know forum types normally hate Roman numerals on watches but Stowa here, along with Cartier are examples of beautiful executions. There are terrible ones - Rolex' applied ones are awful. Just compare the initial Everose Skydweller with Arabics to the Roman versions.

With the Stowa, it costs about a grand for the one pictured. They are now also doing the cheap auto with a Roman dial but somehow its not quite as good looking for some reason, it seems to lose something. But the auto does have that lovely slender second hand making its way around and it's half the price. It's hard to find these to look at in the wild.

As an owner of the Arabic version of the first watch I have to say that the Roman version is still a looker. In the above instance though I'd go for the auto version rather than the manual, the reason being that I find that the Roman numerals jar with the Arabic ones around the sub-dial.

I'm not normally a watch kind of guy, the dearest one that I have ever owned was a Fossil thing that was about £150 and that was years ago, it was a 21st birthday present from a girlfriend (I'm 30 now).

I've decided that I'd like one and the timing has come up pretty well as I have just been promoted at work and there was a bonus involved in that transition, so I've man mathed my way into believing that anything I buy will essentially be free as I wouldn't have had the money had I not been given the job hehe

I like the look of the Rolex Air King, I know absolutely nothing about watches but obviously I know of the Rolex brand, but I'm just wondering if I'm focusing on the idea of having one of those without giving any alternatives good consideration, argh! irked

Go to a Rolex authorised dealer and partake in their hospitality (you could take a party of 6 to mine and end up drinking all afternoon in there!) and try on all their watches and see which takes your fancy.

Health warning: when I say try on ALL their watches, what I really mean are the half dozen left in the window that no one else wants...hehe

I had another look at this today.

Breitling Avenger Blackbird Titanium 48mm. Definitely my next purchase.

hehe I'm an impatient guy, they didn't have one available but I did try a good few watches on and I walked away with this.

I can be quite impulsive so I doubt that it will be the last one, I'll be bankrupt before long! silly

This keeps currently tempting me:

I'm really not a fan of dive watches at all, but I stumbled across it via the Hodinkee article below and for some reason I just keep coming back to it.

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/rado-hyperchrome...

I'm well aware for the £1,200 or so they are on the grey market it'll be largely worthless almost immediately because of the brand name ( I happen to like Rado getmecoat ) but I've never thought of a watch as an investment so don't really care.

I have my want list: Stowa x 2, Longines Heritage Conquest, Seikos Cocktail Time & Alpinist. Having to save a bit as a holiday is coming up and an unexpected expensive car repair is on the cards.

Not deviating from having these, but for something a little different I keep going back and looking at these:

I really like the look of these especially in the red and turquoise colours. cool

Anybody any experience of the Watch Gecko Geckota watches? smile

The hour hand on that is absolutely horrendous!
Rado can and does make some nice watches, but this one misses the mark by quite some margin.

I'm not a big fan of the hour hand either, but I wasn't on the SKX and I've gotten used to it tbh.

They were somewhat limited by how the original looked they're copying I suppose hehe

It is funny how personal watch tastes are, I find the Tudor hour hand above awful, and to be honest am not the hugest fan of the one on the Rado but do think it matches the 'vintage' feel in that case.

Its the reason I couldn't contemplate buying a Tudor with the 'snowflake' hand. To my eye, with no particular justification, it just looks clunky, agricultural and, unforgivably for a quality timepiece, imprecise.

This:

The reason i haven't bought one is simple. I don't need another dress watch. On the other hand, i think i might buy one tomorrow smile

Maybe something to put you off: I think the standard strap is naff, and it's relatively thick.

That said, it's a superb watch and I get loads of compliments on it biggrin.
