Real-world option? I keep looking at this:

I really love the ethos behind it and I'm sure I'll own one at some point.

I had another look at this today.

Breitling Avenger Blackbird Titanium 48mm. Definitely my next purchase.

Almost perfection!

I've been putting off ordering one of these for quite a while now but have managed to find a new one at a US dealer in the exact spec I want without the 9-12 month wait when ordering directly from the manufacturer in Germany:

Just waiting for the FEDEX tracking number to be provided and the shaking can begin smile

Love some of the Seiko Presage range.
For instance...

I like the look of that, but might the hands (and, rather obviously, therefore the time) be difficult to see at a glance?

The ethos was simply to make myself something that I really liked, and then to cross my fingers that a few other people would like it enough to buy one before my wife found out how much it'd cost to do!

Bloody hell mate! Spooky! We have the same taste in cars and watches. We could have talked for another hour about the Dornbluth. I bought exactly the same a few years back but waited the full 14 months. Worth every minute (literally!).

Enjoy. Bon Noel too!

Hello John, very small world isn't it laugh

I now have the tracking number from FEDEX and the watch is waiting to be put on a plane at their Indiana depot, scheduled to arrive here tomorrow. I have looked at a few others in the past 3-4 years but have always come back to the Dornbluth and made the instant decision to buy it once I saw the seller was the registered distributor of Dornbluth watches in the US and Canada thumbup

Hope you and the family have a great Xmas and catch up with you and Peter soon smile

Seiko bottle cap in blue, I probably don't need four Seiko dive watches (and I know it's not a 'proper' diver's watch anyway), but it's got a decent movement which hacks and hand winds, and a display back, and it actually has some originality to its design:

I really like that, as you say, it’s a bit different/original to the usual stuff one sees.

Do you know the model number and (rough/RRP) price?

there are a few different colourways, and all around £170 I think - silver bezel/black dial is SRPC61, the blue bezel/blue dial is SRPC63, black/blue is SRPC65, black/black is SRPC67, and the slighty odd (can't work out if I like it or not) gold bezel/brown dial is SRPC68:

Not at all, it's easy to read at a glance and has become a firm favourite in my collection. I went for the one with the power reserve indicator which i think is worth having. As has been said previously on here, prepare to change the strap as the one it comes on is a super shiny gloss black job. I changed that for a matt black leather strap with blue counter stitching about three hours after buying the watch and have loved it ever since smile

I agree on almost all accounts, but it is harder to read at a glance from certain angles because the hands have a mirror finish. Not an issue in most cases but far from as readeable as my SKX for example.

I’ve mentioned this watch on a couple of other threads, the Steinhart Ocean One Titanium.

It strikes me as an effective, quite subtle updating of the classic Sub design without being too ‘homage’.

I’m hoping to trade up to one in the new year once I’ve sold on the latest batch of eBay watches!

Indeed! I loved that you just thought, "Sod it... I'll make my own..". I think it's a great-looking watch and you clearly put a lot of thought and work into the design and engineering.

Tried one on few weeks ago the 42 suits me better. Although I was a bit disappointed in the flesh, although its quality its not worth the 4k the jewellers were asking. I will wait a while and pick up a pre-owned I think, surprised myself like the white dial one better.
