I'm sorry, but I have to agree. Looks like a crappy '70s Seiko that now infest Ebay coming out of India.
I wonder sometimes if you covered up the name on the dial, would it have the same appeal.
It's strange how one person sees something entirely differently - thank heavens I suppose.I wonder sometimes if you covered up the name on the dial, would it have the same appeal.
The Nautilus is currently one of the most desirable watches in the world. Beautifully made and (to me) just the most classic look. It's perfection in every detail.
But I must confess to not thinking this way 10 years ago, I wouldn't have bought one. Now, I'd chew your arm off.
Knowing it's a Patek is certainly part of the appeal - not for it's value, but because you know how it's been made.
Now I can afford one, every other bd wants one too!
I think I need to develop myself a new style or taste!

To try to apply a car-related analogy: It's a bit like a petrolhead drooling over a Porsche 911R coupe. Stripped out, noisy and with a manual gearbox. The average man might think it an awful car, when a quieter car with oceans of leather, sound proofing and a more modern PDK gearbox might be very desirable - despite being much cheaper.

I like the quality, I like that it's not a Rolex, but bejesus that's an ugly watch.I wonder sometimes if you covered up the name on the dial, would it have the same appeal.
I can understand why the Nautilus is a love it or hate it watch. I had an Aquanaut before, and I absolutely loved the 70's feel degrading dial and lumed arabic numbers. I loved it.....and then saw a Nautilus in the flesh. It really is so much more impressive than a photo could ever do it justice. What never really comes across in a photo is how thin it is. It is a stunning piece of engineering, although admittedly the styling is very polarising.
Anyway, a little less controversial today...my wife bought me this for my fortieth....

A casual observation, here. People involved with and absorbed by a particular interest can begin to see beauty and desirability in things other people don't. Things that that the man in the street might think ugly or undesirable.
Yes, quite true. But I'm quite into watches and I still think that all sports Pateks are munters.
