I have decided to get my Cartier Tank Francaise serviced and then sold, It was a 40th Birthday present 13 years ago and I’ve never really loved it. Thought I’d just wear for a couple of days before it’s posted off in a Jiffy bag.

Out of interest, why does the Swiss army have its watch straps made in Norwich?
Might be a mega whooshing of parrots here, but Swiss Army is the “style” usually made from old re-used Swiss Army Ammo pouches smile

Wait, so we are actually importing Swiss army surplus to Norwich, where we’re turning it into watch straps?

Personally, I think the Tank Francaise is a beautiful watch. One of the MOST beautiful.

On women it's the sexiest look. I've never met a woman wearing one who wasn't worth talking to.

On men, things become more tricky. The design is square-edged, masculine and based upon a first world war tank, But it can look feminine, more so because it's quite a small watch by today's standards. I have got one and I will never sell it, but I only wear it now when I am wearing a suit. It fits well under a cuff.

It funny you say that because I’ve been wearing it all day today with jeans and a T shirt! and I really like it, I probably haven’t worn it for over five years. My 16 year old daughter tried it on this morning and loves it so perhaps the best solution is to keep and give it to her as a 21st Birthday present.

They are an attractive watch my wife wears the smaller version in gold and stainless, it really suits her.

YES! Send it back to Cartier for a service and it will come back looking like new. In fact better than new, if my experience is anything to go by.

Get it sized for her (slightly large) and I am sure she will be delighted. Cartier is a jeweller and it's a lovely piece of jewellery, which will have greater value because it used to be yours. That's about as cool as 21st birthday presents get.

Yeah nice that Breguet. I’m not the biggest fan of Breguet hands and numerals but the trademark guilloche is lovely.

It's very rare that I agree with So's posts, but he is bang on the money here. Watches are the de facto 21st present and with the added provenance of being a family heirloom it can't be beaten IMO.
