I'm trying so hard not to look at Pateks. I really want one.
i am clearly a deluded cretin but i don't understand the patek allure at all!
Nor me. I haven't seen one I'd buy. I have enough to buy one, I just don't want to.
Add me to the list.

I can see the appeal of a quality sports watch that isn't a Rolex, but the Pateks munt too badly to own one.

Sharp intake of breath.

Suunto Spartan Sport Wrist HR. Not used it's sporting capabilities yet but they'll get tested as from this evening. Early impressions are very good.

PP are amazing. I do think they are rather like Bristol motor cars. Those that know know.

Very nice - can you explain what all the dials are for (excluding the obvious ones!!)

A review here on that VC timepiece, tells you what the dials show and the price, oh my God the price, stunning piece of watch making though, a proper watch you might say.

Thanks - it's a lovely piece. Obviously it's only the case size (44mm) that is putting me off, nothing to do with the £350k asking price... nono

Actually, it doesn't wear that big and, though a very thick case, it isn't terribly heavy at all.

What I like is the lack of over the top embellishment.

It just quietly goes about its business of showing sunrise, sunset and equation of time in a relatively subtle way. Not too gauche like, say, the Patek Sky Moon Tourbillon 6002) which, to me, is a bit hideous.

I will have a look. It isn't mine (sadly). I organise watch events at various watch boutiques. Last night it was VC, so I had a while to wear and play with it - but it completely slipped my mid to photograph the rear - which is really lovely. Has the power reserve indicator on the back - which I think is a better place for it than the face.

14 day power reserve!

The rear (not my pic)

Only a bit? I know these are oil oligarch specials and sell into different cultures, but that Patek is shocking. As you say the VC is a model of good taste next to it, but I'd say only next to it. I'm sure that both are great feats of engineering but I wouldn't wear either.

I'd have a nice white gold Calatrava if I found £15k down the sofa and I'd run out of ideas for anything else to buy. No rush though, I've got what I want with my Seiko Alpinist and the other bits that make up my modest collection.

That's about the only PP I'd entertain and it would be for occasional use.

It's beautiful isn't it, Ha yeah it's the case size stopping me too! wink

Loving the power reserve on the back as well, I'd like a watch with a power reserve indicator.
