I looked at the Diver 65 - the retro verson with the large 12, 3, 6 and 9, but it didn't sing the way I expected it to. The Aqis is a bit of a classic now, and new, as you say, slimmer (but larger diameter) 2017 model is a lovely thing.

I don't have an orange diver, which is what pushed me that way. Otherwise, I may have gone for the blue dial.

Lovely watch, but double cuffed shirt with jeans ? Surely not.

those Oris watches stray a bit too close to Rolex Sub territory for me.

Other than a dive bezel, I don't see it.

Crown guard? Nope
'Mercedes' hands? Nope
Triangular 12 marker? Nope
Round 5 minute indices? Nope
Date at 3 o'clock? Nope
'Normal' lugs? Nope
Lollipop second hand? Yep

Oh. Right. Yeah. smile

clearly they can't fking make an identical copy. I am saying it looks overall, as a number of watches appear to do, like it has been heavily inspired by classic dive watches; and particularly Sub. Do you agree they look similar or not?

Other than being round, and having a clock face on them, no, I don't.

I couldn't agree at all. On the contrary I'd say the Aquis line is one of the more distinctive and individual divers watch series. It's got its own distinct bracelet, extra thick lugs, "kettle" shaped case, crown guards, and basically it isn't really anything like a submariner. The only submariner-like element I can see in the whole watch is the bezel. I'd give you that one, the new ceramic bezel is similar to a modern submariner bezel, but so are most modern divers with a ceramic bezel. Other than that I really don't see it at all. It's as distinctive a line of watches as is the Doxa dive watches or the Seiko marine masters.

I'm with Doofus on this one, both Submariner and Oris are too much like the Blancpain Fifty Five Fathoms which came before both. The Sub is closer to an FFF than the Oris is to a Sub.

I'm with myself, Submariner was based on Rolex Zero/Centregraph not Blancpain FF.

I did not think Blancpain made a Fifty Five Fathoms...? They make a Fifty Fathoms..

I thought it was Seiko that made a base mechanical watch and then forums and modifiers made the Fifty Five Fathoms as a kind of tribute....?

My cheapo Seiko daily beater

I just researched this, fell in love and bought one cloud9 A quality automatic which is very unique being a modded Seiko 5. You can't but this in a shop. It has to be made from a base 5.

For £200 a beautiful thing.

I use a vintage Blancpain as more or less my daily watch now and whilst I can see that there are some basic "dive watch" touchstones I wouldn't say they are any more similar than any other dive watch.

TeaNoSugar, is spot on the black/blue dial Oris Aquis is simply gorgeous. Not tried it on yet but much much nicer than any Blancpain or any Rolex is (in my opinion, but what do I know? (oh yeah I know there is all that history, but I buy a watch on looks and the 'feel')).

So much so I might even part with the collection if its as good as I'm sure it is. A sports/dress watch all in one whats NOT to like?

Think I have just gone mad! Part with the collection...erm crazy!

It is a lovely looking watch, I've always been a fan of Oris, and recently they seem to have got their designs absolutely on-the-money for the price range they operate in. Great VFM in my opinion.
