This is quite relevant to me as I'm currently on the hunt for a GMT or Sub and have been looking for a nice s/h in the usual places but the prices are high.

I've just been to Bluewater this lunchtime, happened to be passing, and Mappin & Webb had two bi-metals and a Pepsi - nothing in S/S - and Swag had a 16610 Sub for £5,995 which seemed a bit steep considering a new Ceramic Sub is £6,200 RRP I think?

The minefield for me is s/h - there are quite a wide range of values to my untrained eye I would worry about dropping high £4ks on a watch that might need a £700 service. Also the amount of them with no papers that still seem to be the same price as one with the 'full set' is surprising to me.

Watchfinder seemed to be dearer than I remember as well - is it possible to secure a discount if you are not trading up?

Bought a Sub in 2015 [2014 model] from Watchfinder at Bluewater. I was able to get the price reduced by a couple of hundred. Worth a try. Good luck.

I have tried a friends sub on yesterday and yes it's a lovely watch.

Any thoughts about buying a sub in Spain? Travel to Madrid a fair amount as my girlfriend is spanish.
Spain is a very good shout to buy in the short term. The Jeweller at the top of Las Ramblas in Barcelona had loads of stainless Daytonas when we couldn't get them in the UK for love nor money. Call around the Madrid AD's and you'll likely be in luck!

I've just got back from Tenerife and the 2 local Rolex shops had all the stainless models between them. The Euro needed to be 1.25 to be the same price as the UK so decided to wait until i got back and just put my name down at one of the local AD's.
Put my name down for a Hulk and Sub Date on 19th and got a call on 29th to say they had a Sub Date but want a Hulk first. The wait at some AD's is not that long.

Managed to sell my Tudor last night.

My new problem is sorting that my home insurance (AA) wont cover items over £5k.

I cant under-declare the value as they wont pay any amount without seeing a reciept.

I can cancel my current policy and take a new one at almost double the price with them

Or i can request for it to be excluded from my current policy. But there is no guarantee they will do this. I then would have to buy a stand alone policy. Who is good to use? THmarch quoted £136 which seems loads to me but ive no real idea.

Any advice?

Axa are pretty good with a £10k single article limit - not the cheapest though.

Thanks,

I have my contents insurance with AXA and they are very good smile

I have a £10k away from property limit so if I were to throw the bike up the road in a truly spectacular fashion I'm covered for my helmet, leathers, gloves, boots and watch.

Is the 5k not the standard article limit? Will they not allow you to name the item and pay a small premium to cover it?

Sorry it's a new one I'm after. Used ones and ones at a premium are easy to find but not wanting to pay above retail.

Aren't these well over 5k new now , infact I'm sure 5k before the recent price rises so not really being sold at a premium

What's my chances of walking into a Rolex dealer and getting a non date sub at rrp before July?
There was one in the window of WOS in Canary Wharf a few weeks ago. Worth a call.

high, just keep calling.

AD will let you have it waiting list or not if you call on day of a rolex delivery to their store and sound like you are ready to pay there and then (from experience).

I was in an AD today, listening in to a buyer being told, politely, he couldn't have the Rolex he wanted. I understand restrictions keep demand and prices high, but this may ps off some potential buyers. My respect for Rolex diminished a little more today.

Yeah, he was a drunk with no money.

...seriously, it was something he wanted to order but the AD said no chance.

good, i'm glad they're keeping the riff raff out

On a serious note it's not really Rolex saying no is it? Its the retailer saying that (rightly or wrongly)
