Ok I will go down the used explorer route at least it gets me a Rolex again ?? I will start looking now I can't go above £2500 and that's £1000 cash I've saved and getting £1500 off a credit card I'm not wealthy like some on here
Alarm bells! Sorry I don't want to be patronising, but that's not the best idea.

Average credit card loans will cost you somewhere between 15 and 20% APR. If you pay it off completely in 12 months, at 20% the loan will cost you £153.

If you really are prepared to stick to a £2500 budget for a watch and £1500 is on CC (lets stick with 20% and completely clearing the loan in 12 months), then your top budget for the watch is £2360. That's £1000 cash, £1360 CC loan & £139 in interest. You will need to pay £125 a month to clear this in 12 months. Your total spend will be £2499.

I could afford to spend £2.5K on a watch, but I could not afford to borrow from a credit card. Try looking online at the comparison sites for better rates.

Don't get me wrong, I do like a nice watch (I have 20+ at the last count), but I wouldn't get into debt over one (unless someone was offering 0% credit). It's just not worth it, a £7.99 Casio will do the job better. I do understand the desire, a fancy watch is a lovely thing, but it really won't enhance your life!

Only a fool looks at someone else's possessions and consider's them a status symbol. Often it just tells you how much debt they have.

OP - no, don't do this.

You'll loose money on the buy > sell split when you decide to change, there's the interest cost as mentioned, and you come to resent the thing once the novelty wears off but the payments continue.

Keep saving for what you really want.

Plenty of Speedmaster's out there for under £2k. These have a fair few: https://www.est1897.co.uk/omega#/pageSize=12&v...

For the price, i'd go for a Rolex air-king (might have to up budget a little) but then as some have mentioned they can look a little on the small side on some peoples wrists. Something like this you may be able to get for around the £2k mark http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rolex-Air-King-14000M-/2... .This one obviously has no box or p/w hence the lower than average price.

Sadly those on 1897 seem to be reduced / autos rather than manual Moonwatch Pro's

After speaking to a worker at goldsmiths and a jewellers in Manchester who informed me I would regret buying a Tudor I have decided to plump for the speedmaster. My tops budget is £2500 anyone aware of any good buys out their?

There probably not any better than any other dealers but he is the dealer that for some reason a lot on here bang on about, gets a lot of promoting and the moderaters turn a blind eye to!!

Ironically, I've bought both a Tudor Black Bay and Speedy Moonwatch from Iconic watches online and received great service and a keen price on both occasions.

They are different types of watch - Diver vs Chronograph. So decide what look you want.

My BB is red bezel with the black leather distressed strap and bought as a weekend jeans watch vs. Speedy on the bracelet and bought as a suit & tie work watch.

If I could only have one, it'd be the Speedy as that covers both wear occasions better.

My Speedy is the classic "moonwatch" pattern (manual wind and plexiglass). This is just because of the heritage story, and is really a function of my mild OCD smile

Don't listen to the purists and discount the auto wind and sapphire crystal Speedy. I have found that even after a year of careful wear the plexiglass on mine has picked up a couple of small scuffs, But they are only visible if you hold the watch into light, so nothing obvious.

IIRC I paid £2800 for mine with the big presentation box set, from Iconic watches last spring.

In your position, I'd save to get from £2500 to £2800 and buy the same. It's what you want and if provenance matters to you, then it's a sound choice.

There are literally dozens of Speedmaster models available.

Dom has got x 2 Mk2's on his website & a new Moonwatch at what doesn't seem an unreasonable £2895.

Facking hell, you're like a 20 year old virgin girl who really wants the bone but is afraid to ask for one. Just get in touch with the man and ask him a question directly. He might surprise you. If he doesn't you can look elsewhere, but to be honest it seems to me that you're a kind of customer who whatever you buy you won't be happy with it unless it's a sub. Therefore I'd keep the 1k as an emergency fund and forget about expensive watches you can't afford.

Yes - the new one at £2895 is.

Google "Speedy Tuesday" and look for this week's (June 06) post.

I agree with VG sounds like you cannot afford what you really want (just like me) so give up.

Why must you have a nice watch?

To be fair, I remember there being 'detractor' threads, but there are many, many more positive comments over the years. That's probably indicative of something or other.
