Here's a horrible quick cut and paste of the three variations.

Left - the original 2011 watch. Everything fits...just!

Middle the 'chin' watch with the little wobbly bump to fit the tachometer. Bonkers really, but quite loveable for it!

And right the current version which is more in keeping with prior PP dials but also doesn't work 100%. Wouldn't say no though biggrin
Not sure I could live with the lower dial being so obviously squeezed in, there's just too much information on that face.

Yep, much too busy and wouldn't even register with me if I was in the market for a PP.

Nicest one of the above trio is the first version and even at that...

Took me longer than I care to admit to work out wtf you were on about with the "chin" paperbag

They have obviously reduced the size of the date font as much as they are willing to...I much prefer the original dial with large date font and no squeezed in tachometer...but it does seem remarkable that they have found no better solution to fitting this dial to the movement and case.

It's a tachymeter. A tachometer is something different. smile

Lorries have a tachograph. A tachometer is a rev counter. wink

Thanks! I prefer the early dial because it looks better and as I have demonstrated I barely even know what a tachymeter is and certainly have no use for one...give me the big date instead! biggrin

Isn't life marvelous. By the time we can afford a mechanical watch with complications, our eyesight can't see them anyway. 8)

A brief update with good news and bad news!

Through a friend, I have secured a deal on an unworn 2016 5940J at £36,500 which is about the cheapest I have come across a 5940 with the exception of the Sotheby's auction I referred to earlier.

The bad news is that the watch is in the US and I have insisted on a UK deal on UK soil for obvious reasons. That's possible, but may not be till next year when the dealer will travel to the UK. frown

So, come 2019 I will have a 5940 for sure, but in the meantime the search continues to see if I can get the same deal (or better!) here in the UK without having to wait so long.

What, no resolution, despite having almost zero interest in watches I'm disappointed.
