I am drawn towards a white gold smurf. There are rumours on these forums of people getting 20-25% off RRP for new precious metal Rolexes. Is this still true in 2017 in the U.K.? Does anyone have any experience of this?
Many thanks

Great watch. Proper stealth wealth, I have a SubLV (hulk) and love the sunburst dial. This is exactly the same and looks great

10% should be easy on a precious metal watch. Not so sure 25%. I`d be tempted with used to achieve that discount

You'll have to buy a used one to get one for 20-25% off list is what I think he's saying.

I may be going mad but there was a post from someone with the username 'Drainbrain' (or something vaguely similar) who stated that buying a smurf new was a bad idea for a number of reasons, and my reply was in response to that. He/she appears to have changed their mind

I think that with the blue sub (my favourite, but out of my reach) you're stuck between the 'easily' available precious metal watches, such as the bi-metal GMTs and similar, and the popularity of the sub in general.

I, for one, have never seen a smurf, but that's not to say they aren't out there - I've not been looking. These days I'd be slightly surprised if a discount is achievable at an AD purely because business is better than it has been for years - although having said that my experiences have been with steel ones only.

Obviously have a go, 10% is a fair chunk of saving, but honestly would hold too much hope unless you're willing to go outside the AD network.

Thanks very much! Don't worry, I have been lurking much longer than ten years!! I was lurking back when this was the TVR site petrolheads. I'm a lover not a fighter and a reader not a writer

Fly in or out of Heathrow airport and arrange collection for any of the terminals from watches of Switzerland and you will save 20% as there is no duty. You will have to arrange for them to get one in stock for you before you travel but it will not be a problem with the smurf.

Probably, tho' the smurf was gotten in to replace the ND as the daily dog.

It's not been the usual anticlimax and it's certainly not boring either. I'm even learning to live with the weird goggly cyclops. So right now the ND's in an induced coma in the box alongside the now tiny "collection" (4) following The Great Cull.

No regrets about the sell-off btw. Thought there might be, but nope.
