Greetings! I have a Tag Carrera and also a Tag Connected, I managed to get one of the last at the launch.

When I bought it, Tag were stating that after two years, the 'founders' watches would be entitled to return the watch plus £1000 to get a special edition Tag Calibre.

It's coming up to two years since they were launched, does anyone remember this deal if so, what the latest is? I can't see anything from Tag.

I do remember the deal and was told by the Tag dealer I spoke with that a letter would be sent on the upgrade offer when eligibility occurred.

I didn’t buy in the end though admittedly

This is the very reason i didnt buy one.

Do you know the price yet?
Do you know what it will look like?
Do you know what calibre it will be using?

I have been told all of the above by at least three separate people, dealers or Tag employees, and i have not heard the same thing repeated once!

I do hope that you get answers soon but i wouldnt be surprised if it takes a while to sort this out.

Ps sorry for probably coming across as a bit of a C i dont mean too its just i really no longer trust Tag over this and i ised to have a very good relationship with them.

This matches the look and the calibre of what i was told, but it also states that it resembles the materials and design of the connected watch.
Last i was told was that you would hand in your watch, they would take it away and put the mechanical workings into your existing case so you would get the same case and strap back.
But i was also informed there would be something on the dial relating to the connected watch.

Again though they refused to confirm this in writing to me and is not part of the contract when buying the watch. It also seems to be a strange date for that page with being roughly 1 year i to the scheme!

I don’t think the date it was posted is strange. I’m sure Tag were receiving plenty of questions regarding the trade in option so they published a web page to answer most of the questions. Seems simple enough to me.
I would never trust the word of an AD employee in matters related to future watches. If you want proper information the best place for it is from the manufacture direct (in this case the tag website).

Have a formal response from Tag, was surprised how quickly they responded:

"Dear Mr Quags,

Thank you for your enquiry.

After the two years’ warranty for a period of 3 months only, you can exchange and upgrade your watch for £1,100.00 to a special edition Carrera which will be only available for TAG Heuer Connected owners. The watch has an automatic 3-hands movement and resembles the design and materials the TAG Heuer Connected.
The exchange can be processed through any of our worldwide stores selling the connected watch or by contacting our UK support centre. Please note you will be required to have your guarantee card or some form of proof of purcase in order for exchange to take place.

Please find attached image displaying the special edition Carrera in comparrison to the TAG Heuer Connected 46mm.

Kind regards

Craig

TAG Heuer Connected Support"

They have confirmed it's the Calibre 5 mechanical watch. As much as it pains me, I'll probably do the upgrade then sell it on. The Connected won't be worth much secondhand I'm guessing.

Have they confirmed what the watch will look like? And whether there will be any ltd edition markings on the watch?

I know its only £100 but that is more than they told me the swop would cost.

I dont want to keep throwing my toys out of the pram with this but they really have lost me as a customer over the way they have handled this.

There is a photo of it on the tag website that I linked to above.

The information tag have released regarding this has been consistent since day 1. Here is a article from November 2015 with the exact same info (and price) as above.

The information you recieved may have been consistent the information i recieved was certainly not.

The contract i was being asked to sign made reference to a payment in the region of £1000 or similar it certainly did not set a definite price in the contract.

The contract i was being asked to sign made refernce to the type of watch and suggested that it would likely be a calibre 5 but again did not confirm this.

I understand that you felt comfortable enough to sign this contract and for all i know that could of been due to the fact that you were signing a different contract to me. But for me i was not willing to sign the contract that was put in front of me which did not confirm anything only suggested potential costs and solutions.

Details of the trade in exchange options albeit with $ pricing.

I think I will go for the 46mm Calibre 5 Special Edition as its only available as part of the exchange program.

Cant tell from that pucture if the top two are the same, if so may be worth going for the modular option as this appears to be they way they are going now so would open different options. Saying that the text does look ever so slightly thicker on the second photo at the 6 o’clock position, but could easily be the photo.
And i would definitely be wanting the ltd edition version.

The limited edition is 46mm, the other one is 45mm with different 'shoulders' on the bezel at 12 and 6 o'clock.

There is more detail here:

Oh interesting thanks for the update!

The last page of that forum with the 46mm on someones wrist does look rather excellent. And unlike the 45mm it should be quite unique.

The real question with all this is what is the 46mm worth? I'd be £2,200 in after exchanging, and I'm sure it's not worth over £2,000.

In a couple of years will it be worth more? Tricky investment methinks.

I think I'm missing something here. Are Tag saying that the Connected watch is NFG now so you can have a deal on an "ordinary" watch?

That would be my interpretation too!

I'd read it as a positive thing. The v1 watch is a piece of consumer electronics, so it has a limited lifespan anyway, as things move far more rapidly in electronics than they do in mechanical watchmaking. The v2 is out, so you could quite sensibly argue that the v1 is obsolete anyway. The offer was, and is, in my view designed to both get people with money to buy the v1, on the promise of conversion to mechanical, and to give (really expensive) disposable consumer tech a lifespan far in excess of things like the Apple Watch. Good marketing move on their part, IMHO.

This.

Way I saw it £1,100 today and £1,100 in 2018 and I get a watch which will be a limited edition watch with a base cost of about £1,800 so for £400 extra I get a smart watch to play with for 2 years.

Has anyone actually done this? What was the process?
