A quick break in proceedings has allowed me the time for a very quick shot, not my finest 'photo and it has nothing to do with any wine already consumed today...biggrin

Not sure if I've hit the sherry too hard, but that is one of my favourites on this thread of late.

I think in part it is because it appears that Micky is raving in that picture. I think some rave drugs and a dance would finish Christmas off nicely.

Instead I think it will be turkey sandwiches and red wine.

Which is why I used to be skinny and now I am fat.

Mum gave me another of my late fathers watches yesterday.

I was left his Rolex Datejust in the will, She had a Gucci Quartz repaired earlier in the year which was water damaged many years ago. His other Gucci Quartz I was given for my 18th Birthday.

Today she gave me the first watch I actually remember him wearing, think they bought them (mum has a matching one that my sister got yesterday) in Cyprus around 1994.

Nothing special at all but still has memories for me.

I need to do some research into the model etc.

^ Raymond Weil were all the rage for a while weren’t they? I remember my mum claiming on our holiday insurance and buying one after we got burgled on holiday in the late 80s. Can’t remember what it replaced but I think it was considered to be a significant upgrade at the time biggrin

Cheers Lorne, it's a Lemania 5012, issued to South African pilots in the eighties so no particular name as no civilian version. Well, the case was also used in the Heuer 501.523 but without the bezel:

Rare I get this one out of its cocoon these days. 12 years old nearly and I still love it more each time I wear it.

It’s a 5146. Only precious metal versions exist, it can be had with a bracelet or on leather. Mandelson wore one at the Labour Party conference...yes it is the watch of ‘champagne socialist’ infamy!

I really like them. I wanted a Patek with calendar. I want a perpetual Patek really but I’m not mature enough to own one and be trusted to look after it, haha. There is a lot of love on this forum (and others) for A Lange and Sohne but they do nothing for me...I’m a sucker for branding/marketing/history I guess.
