As others have posted - class, as are most of what JLC has ever designed. Makes Rollies look thug like IMHO getmecoat
Personally I think they look effete.

Isn't it just a price thing?
I've no idea, but these look like a million bucks, while most Rolexes.... don't.
To me they are in a different ball park, like comparing a BMW Z4 with a Pagani.

Amazing watch - JLC Master 8 Day Perpetual - it is still on my list to buy as a Daily - will stop me wearing the Duometre.

Hmmm, I am not so sure. My boss has 4 different Patek's that I've seen him wear and none of them "wow" me when you consider how expensive they are. But it's horses for courses, would be a boring world if we all liked them same thing etc etc.

i'd have thought the point of something like that is that it doesn't 'wow' people

It is a JLC and it is a Perpetual but it is actually a JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual and as such is automatic rather than manual which the Master 8 Day Perpetual is.

In terms of the comments about Rolex - nothing wrong with Rolex watches - I have more Rolex in my collection than any other brand and that includes quite a few Submariners. As an everyday watch, built to last, go anywhere - they are unbeatable. They are however very recognisable and that does have some drawbacks.

Really? Knowing the people I know who own Patek's, I'd say they want the wow factor.

depends which model and which budget maybe but i had always had them in the 'expensive, classy and understated' bracket but maybe they do have more in the way of showier models than i had assumed.

Surely if you want the 'wow' factor you buy something ridiculous like a Hublot or a Gold Yachtmaster. Can't think of a PP that fits the bill? Do the people you know all wear Nautilus chronos?

Nope, all dressier watches for the most part. Saying that, he does have a couple of AP's and a Hublot as well that I've seen him wear. By "wow" factor, I meant, "wow, he's wearing a Patek." I just look at them and think, "meh." I understand the craftsmanship etc etc, but I've seen prices for some of the models he wears and I just couldn't even begin to see the value in them.

I would generally think of 'wow factor' as wow look at that cool watch!! (from the normal man on the street, not a watch person).

I'm mostly the same, but the "value" is in the brand cachet, since Lange & Sohne have them licked in the finishing dept, in the sub-£100K range, and a number, not least FP Journe have a much more pleasing caliber design to look at.
Even the basic 3-hander Calatrava are shaded by the likes of the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony.

As the JLCs are getting some love at the moment, my Master Geographique that is now back on my wrist after a few months mainly wearing an oversized Garmin sports watch. Nowhere near as impressive as Chris’s collection, but it looks the part to my eye and gets a lot of positive comments from my colleagues who have an interest in watches - there’s quite a few in a private banking office in Zurich!

The "wow" factor is for you, not anyone else. Nobody realises what your watch may be worth apart from other middle-aged men smile

Each to their own regarding Rolex design, of course. To my eyes the above JLC design is art whereas looking at the dozens of Rolexes posted here I see a similar watch each time. Even their peer brand Tudor designs fresh looking pieces. Just look in a jeweller's window at the Rolexes - all the same to me.

For the record I'm not talking from inexperience or envy, I once owned 3 Rolexes together. I got the gold Oyster in '83 (changed the face to white then back again, preferring the blue). I sold them all. Don't get me wrong, Rolexes are what I'd call "smart" looking "pieces - I just outlived the brand biggrin

Lovely watches you guys all have... BUT don't you guys get worried about being robbed by highlighting what you own publicly?

It's not hard for a criminal to back track and find out your name and address if they want to.

I was quite nieve too but after some thieving b@stards tried to break into the house whilst I was asleep to get the keys to the AMG, I have become more concious of what I do and show. So much so, I sold the AMG to get a worry free nights sleep.

Of course the attempted AMG theft had nothing to do with back tracking my details online but it just highlighted that what I felt was normal, in fact is not. And many people want the easy route to what I have built up.

Don't think that's much of an issue if you don't reveal too much. You need a fair bit of info to track back to a location. It is possible with certain members though it's true...and I do wonder about some of the other threads on here...e.g. house renovations with interior shots, security details etc...
