Hhmmm 38mm you say?? That's about the same size as my two Timex Expeditions.
In answer to your NATO strap question I'd say the black/grey looks good!!

Now I'm going to show my ignorance and ask for some advice from you all, I have two automatic watches which don't get worn enough for them to stay wound, is it ok for them to be started and stopped or should I invest in a twin winder???

I wouldn't bother, I've for autos that don't get worn for ages and they always run fine when I get them out to wear.

+1. The budget conscious horologist knows not to invest in a watch winder.

Indeed. A good long four finger shuffle gets all of mine going for at least a day. If not, repeat. What's not to like?

One cheeky watch incoming!

Couldn’t resist! So, I bought a Laco B-Uhr, but sold it on as the face at 38mm was a bit busy:

Now, the one I really liked was the Laco Erbstück. These are artificially aged new watches, reproductions of the WW2 B-Uhr with a cleverly done patina:

Nice things - problem is, they start at €1300-€1500. I’m not paying that!

Anyway, for €20 plus postage I’ve bought this Miltec B-Uhr, with similar fake patina and what looks like a nice meaty leather strap:

Get the look for less!

Yep, they have a lovely look. My MilTec is only a quartz, but it’s only €23 posted to my door, too.

As usual I will bore you all with photos when it arrives.

Having being given a watch box for my birthday I dug out everything I own (except a couple of really crap old things) and put them all in the box.

I forgotten that I had this, which according to research is well under 200 quid.

It's a Swiss made Rotary, 17 jewel Incabloc from the face. It's small, it's hand wound and I'll more than likely never wear it. The watch belonged to my grandpa and was only found by my mum a while back. She had it serviced, a new strap put on it and gave it to me to look after. It runs well, keeps excellent time and it's nice to have something from my grandpa as I was only young when he died from Parkinsons so I have no memory of him being 'well'

I'll keep it safe.

Here's the rest of the box with plenty of stuff that fits this thread...

^ nice collection, that.

I have a similarly sized Omega De Ville from my wife's grandfather, recently returned from Anglesey Watches and running perfectly. I wear it to black tie events and at concerts.

On the subject of your collection, how does the HydroConquest compare to the higher-end Seiko dive watches there?

Thanks.

I don't tend to wear a tie very often, let alone a black one but I am getting married at some point in the next couple of years so it'll probably make an appearance then. Would be a nice touch.

Initially I didn't think there was much in it to be honest but on closer inspection the Longines is finished better. The case finish is far more uniform, little things let the Seikos down such as the chapter ring being slightly off line on the turtle. The Seiko bracelets always feel a bit poor too IMO which is why they're on NATO's. The Longines bracelet doesn't have pressed buckles so feels far more 'quality' if that makes sense. The case back has far more detailed machining etc and the movement is near silent as well in the Longines where as all of the Seikos are noisy in comparison.

I don't have a downer on the Seikos though as they are absolutely bomb proof and fantastic value for money. The Monster is over 10 years old, it's been clattered, dropped and stood up to more abuse than any watch I've ever owned and it's still going. It's running a little fast but nothing a service won't sort out.

Dubber, that G Shock and the TW Steel are hideous (says me, the last word in style and fashion).

I do need to get myself a watch box though. I just don’t like most of the ones I’ve seen online.

FWIW, I’m not a big fan of the “Type B” Flieger, either. I’ve got a generic one, which is actually pretty decent (I’ve no idea where it is at present, where I bought it or how much I paid!). I need to sort through the remaining boxes I’ve still not unpacked since I moved into my flat in February. Last year... in my defence, the boxes I’ve not gone through are all labelled “Lego”, however when I checked with my two sisters, who packed up that room, they did say they’d put “some other stuff in some of the Lego boxes”... FFS. I wish they hadn’t. I’ve now got about another 30 boxes to unseal and check. Yes, I do have that much Lego. After watches, it’s my other “addiction”!

Anyway, back on thread, I’m back wearing my Maranez Kata, which was about £120 or so, I think. Auto movement, the lume is actually not bad, it’s a nice size and I quite like it on the included brown leather strap. It has a bit of a look of the Oris 65 stuff, to my mind.

The TW was 30 quid in the Argos clearance a while ago, worth every penny for that cost but full retail is a laughable £200 ish quid in some places. I've worn it a few times on nights out, it wears pretty well to be fair. I think a few people here got them, I'd not ordinarily have got it but for 30 quid I thought 'fk it'

The top left G is super old, it was a silvery colour but it's just work down to a pale grey now, it's not coming across well in the pic. The Mrs got it for me years ago, it's good for summer holiday pool duties smile the other one is my work 'beater'

I’ve never been a TW fan. I know watches in general have got bigger over the years, but stil...

I’ve a couple of G Shocks as well, although in the less “exotic” black colour. And like you, I’ve an “inherited” watch, in my case, my Dad’s 1956 Omega Seamaster. Not worth a right lot, but priceless to me.
