Thanks Barchettaman. At the risk of further exposing my ignorance, what's the difference between auto and hand-wound?

Looks quite classy I think.

Seems decent for less than 50 quid.

Well my latest addition has arrived, I converted some points at work into Amazon e-vouchers and bought this for myself!

So you can stop guessing now!!

Hand wound, you wind it up with the windy bit (the crown)
Auto, winds itself up with a spinning weighted rotor inside the case.
To slightly muddy the waters most autos can also be hand wound.

Top work, Bobbs. I‘ve had a couple of Edifice watches and liked them. Sold them on for a profit, in fact, as they came in job lots.

The watch snob in me knew I wasn’t going to wear them much so away they went to a more appreciative owner.

They offer unbelievable value, particularly used.

Seen a couple of posts about these Parnis watches. I’ve never heard of them but needed a cheap watch that I can wear when doing diy, so purchased this for £80.
Ordered yesterday, selected 1st class post and it arrived this morning, £75 + £4 for first class delivery.

I've had the same Parnis Daytona white face ceramic for a couple of months now (£75 inc. post). I've had a Rolex GMT Pepsi for a few years, love it but it's getting too valuable for everyday. I've also got a Breitling Colt Chrono 2 quartz on a black leather strap which is a good casual watch. However, I was fascinated by the Parnis, although worried that a "homage" is a bit close to a fake, but at £75 complete with Seiko movement I had a "what the hell" moment, suppressed my potential embarrassment and bought it.
The Parnis has truly excellent build quality and only lack of screw down crown and a mismatch of radius on Tachymeter script on the bezel against it. There's enough detail difference and Parnis branding to escape "fake" accusations, the hybrid quartz/mechanical movement appeals and, basically, I love it.

I think the word "PARNIS" in large letters across the face is enough to distinguish "homage" from "fake"!

Agreed, I’m in a similar position whereby my everyday watch is now being saved for a few times a week.
Didn’t like wearing my Rolex when working on the MR2 or doing diy.

Following on from my previous bank holiday and beer purchases I'm really quite taken with this.
I haven't yet had a drink so have so far not committed. I'll report back in the morning.
£1 under thread limit.

I've got a couple of their straps, but that watch looks very smart.

I actually think I've got that very strap on my Rodania.

Nice collection!

Latest effort is my newly acquired slava automatic. Very unusual case style, which I kinda like. Its on a brown leather strap just now, as it was the only 18mm strap I had lying around. I've ordered a black leather Croc skin with white contrast stitching and light gold deployment clasp, so should look better once paired with its proper strap.

That's very different, but in a good way!!! I like the way the hour markers continue onto the case, very eye catching!!!

Made this myself so I'm quite proud how it's turned out.

Knackered SNKL09 from eBay £17
New NH35 movement £21
Rafflestime dial £15
Rafflestime Hands £18
New Crown £6
Rubber Strap from AliX £1

Total £78.

It took a while to get it all together but is well worth it. Give it a go!

Stunning! Been thinking of doing this myself for a while... What tools did you need?

Thank you! Forgot the new crystal too - domed sapphire (the brand is called Minging - really). That was another £10.

Thank you ! The essential tools for the above are:

Hand pressers - this is the most fiddly part. I tried to do it with one of the cheapy plunger type tools but there was so much play it was impossible. Eventually got this set of three made by Anchor for £9 link

Hand removers - i prefer the lever tools. Again about £2 from AliX

Glass Press - i used this one from Amazon. Used it to remove the old and install the new. Be careful of the gaskets. link

Case opener / tweezers / blower / spring bar tool - got all in one in this kit. link

Not great quality but did the job - you can upgrade as you go but no need to spend on Bergeon at this stage as the price is silly. The Anchor stuff looks good for an amateur and Cousins sell a decent value range.

Use latex gloves for handing the bits, and a loupe's helpful too, especially for the hands.

Blow everything a million times with the blower to get rid of all dust / fibres etc. I missed a tiny speck and it annoyed me for a week until I took it all apart and got rid of it.

Watch lots of youtube videos for an idea of how it looks. The Watch Repair Channel by Mark Lovick is really detailed and helpful.

I can't afford any of the high end stuff on this forum but by doing it myself I get watches that are unique, keep good time and the satisfaction is huge. I have a number of ideas for my next one.
