Adventures in sub-£200 watch land!

The Hanowa has gone, €50:

The MILTEC B-Uhr is also on its way to a new owner- €30

I won’t wear this Fossil so it’s gone for €20:

The Marina Militare went for €75:

I wasn’t wearing this Parnis sterile-dial Batman homage so it’s gone too, €75:

Apparently my TAG Heuer S/EL has arrived (£160 from Japan), but as I am in London and not at home in Frankfurt I haven’t seen it:

And waiting for my birthday is this wonderful Bulova Lunar Pilot which has been paid for by the profits from the above sales!

Tried my tan rally strap on an old pulsar and it's given it a new lease of life! I love it and think it really suits...

I like that tan rally strap, I might have to pick up one like that as I can think of a few of mine it would work well with.

Yes, but with the watches he sold it probably brought it in under budget tongue out That's the best way to collect in my view. Build up a bit of a collection first, then operate a one in, one out policy. Or sell a few if you want a more expensive one etc. That way you can change round quite a bit without having to add more money to the pot.

I never get around to selling any of mine unfortunately!

At least watches don't take up much space. I suppose its more important to operate the in/out policy if you're spending thousands like some do!

I don't think I've worn this all year. I should sell it really, but it's not worth much and I fancy wearing it today.

I'm not, but if one were thinking about selling cheap watches where do you do it? I guess the Bay is the obvious assumption, but is there anywhere else?

It's one of the things I like about having so many watches, just seeing which one I fancy wearing!! Today it's my Diesel.

In the ten years that I've been looking at watches I've only ever sold two and they were both to members of thewatchforum.co.uk. It's a really nice friendly little forum that I dip in and out of whenever the watch bug hits me again. You see a lot more sub-£200 watches there than you do on other forums. Lot's of vintage, electric and Russian stuff.

Tauchmeister automatic? Lovely things, didn’t know they came in within thread budget.

As far as selling watches is concerned, anything I want to shift goes on german eBay small ads (Kleinanzeigen). No fees, no fuss (so far).

Not quite, but very nearly.

The Hanowa was from a job lot that had already netted €70, so I was €120 up with its sale.

The Fossil had sat in a drawer for five years.

The MILTEC I sold for €7 profit, haha.

I lost €20 ish on the two Parnis combined.

The Bulova was £336 from H. Samuel so came in post-profit just over the thread limit. Yellow card rather than red, I think, Bobberoo!

The saga of the budget TAG Heuer has reached a conclusion.

I went to pick it up from the Frankfurt customs office this morning where I was relieved of €31.

That was annoying.

Anyway, the good news:

It’s in better condition than the seller photos suggested
The ETA 2892 movement sprang smoothly into life and is keeping perfect time.
The original (battered) deployant strap and clasp were included- a new strap has been ordered and the old TAG clasp will be reused.

The bad news:

It’s a bloody lady’s watch!!

So, Mrs Barchetta is getting it. She’s delighted, I‘m not as pissed off as I would otherwise have been as I get my Vostok Amphibian back from her, and all’s well that ends well etc etc.

Photos to follow when the new strap arrives!

I got it from Werners Flying Watches years ago. Haven't looked at their site for ages, but they still seem to have some interesting designs.

I like the look of this 1000m diver.

As is often the case, I was looking for something else (the battered, old, beige tin my Mum used to keep the first aid stuff in at home, on the shelf above the cellar steps, so if you were feeling light headed from loss of blood, reaching for the tin while on tip toes would no doubt see you tumbling down the steps to an untimely death), when I found a few of my “missing” watches, which I’d collected together and put in the tin as I came across them while moving into the flat. I wanted the tin for my first aid stuff, which I’ve put in an equally awkward place on a slightly too high shelf to make one handed retrieval easy.

Top to bottom, then left to right, G shock (no idea of the model number), TrinTec Navigator GMT from Kickstarter (never worn, lume is disappointing and the second hand is only vaguely near to the markers), Helm Vanuatu (which weighs an absolute ton), Scurfa Diver One (which needs a pin in the bracelet) and some sort of Bulova (which needs a new battery, but does have a signed buckle with the cheap leather strap that’s with it):

Slightly closer view of the Scurfa and Bulova:

I stuck the Helm on straight away. It weighs a bloody ton. It’s also running a bit fast, but I’ll see if it settles down over the next few days with wearing it. I had a look on the Helm site and I do like the look of the other two, the Khuraburi and Komodo, but which are both currently sold out unfortunately.

Helm website (which probably doesn’t qualify for this thread, but hey-ho. Sue me).

https://helmwatches.com/index.html

I got the Vanuatu second hand and I think I paid about £150 for it, so this particular example definitely qualifies. It came as a complete set, with the box and instructions, etc. With the exception of the Bulova, all the others were full sets as well and second hand, apart from the aforementioned TrinTec, which was a KickStarter backing.

Talking of KickStarter, they’ve popped up a couple of times on my Facebook feed this week, forcing me to order a £67 “PowerUp 4.0” paper aeroplane dual motor, wing mounted LEDs and “autopilot” module with accelerometer and g-meter and a pair of “Give’r” £84 leather “outdoor” mittens (the creator’s name is “Bubba”; make of that what you will).

I should’ve put that money towards this £160 Geckota...

... or this £190 Armida...

I hadn’t even been drinking when I backed these two projects!
