A visual clue to the magnetic shielding of the watch?
yes
Exactly.....plus it looks cool which is after all what watches are all about.

If you want to know the time accurately you're better off using your phone!

A year ago i was in a similar boat.

I bought a 16570 Explorer 2 with black dial

It's the 40mm one, not the later 42mm case.

I quite like chunky watches but i found the 42mm too bulky and a bit toy town for my liking.

I was able to buy a late model 40mm 16570 for sensible price and I love it.

Understated and cool I think, goes with anything, and as it has no rotating bezel it is nice and slim, GMT hand is also useful.

Must go for a Submariner or a GMT, but I love the understated versatility of my Explorer 2.

Bought it from Mark Worthington Jewellers whom I found had a good selection of used and serviced watches.
I picked up a black 16570 a few years back as I thought they were flying under the radar price wise. I thought the dial was knackered on mine as it had gone 'crinkly'. Apparently not for some enthusiasts as it was an era where Rolex had a batch of paint that reacted to the metal and created a 'spiders web' design. You learn something every day.

They're a nice watch, not the usual offerings you see and I reckon they'll have their day.

Sounds a bit like my Daytona. I didn’t think much when I chose between a Zenith and the later model. I just went with the dial that I preferred aesthetically which was the Zenith dial due to the more symmetrical placement of the subdials and the cream colour sub dials.

What I didn’t know at the time was value in a watch with discolouration of those sub dials and so I accidentally ended up with a ‘patrizzi’ dial which turns out to be worth more.

I have emailed goldsmiths to get added to the waiting list for the new pepsi bezel.

Happy to wait 12 months, I have wanted one for about 5 years!

if you want it in 12 months, you should probably have ordered it 5 years ago.

Thought that might be the case. Oh well...the wait is on

I just don't get why people would wait such a long time, it's not like you are getting something that is exactly bespoke or unique, tailor made etc just another Sports Rolex....

I'd agree with you, after having subs, Sds, DJs I find the 16570 fits what I want as its a quality piece which looks great on the wrist (photos don't do it justice) very comfortable and it's value for money which means I'm not so precious with it; a Rolex you can put on your wrist and forget about (well almost) smile

I've got a Milgauss my wife bought me new a couple of years ago, I wear it every day and love it.

I've got one of these that I bought 10yrs ago. It stopped working properly approx 5 years ago - second hand sticks and you need to give the watch a good shake to get it going again. Anyone any idea what the prob could be? I appreciate I could send it for a service / fix but I just took it off and forgot about it. Looking at that pic makes me want to dig it out and send it to be fixed!

The problem is that you're a lazy, tight-fisted bd who didn't get it serviced. Hope that helps.

Tight I am not, and you have no evidence to suggest anything of the sort.

However, I was hoping I could pop the back open and spray it with a bit of lube.

Exactly, wear mine every day without fail. Don't have that many other watches, but find this is all the watch I need most of the time.

The reason you are no longer tight is because you've skimped on the lube over the years. Mr. Flappy.

Patience is overrated. To quote Veruca Salt "I Want it Now" smile

I suppose I mean that there are many more exclusive pieces than Rolex, in my view you are waiting for a relatively common steel sports watch of which many have been made.

Now if there were genuinely small numbers made (and not cynically manipulated in the Rolex and or Porsche type way) then I would undersand.

To draw another parallel, I would accept waiting 2 years for a hand made shotgun made to my measurements as it's a bespoke item and they can only produce so many due to skilled labour constraints. capacity of the factory etc.

So I don't get waiting 5 years for something that is I would argue not that unique or special, and the lead time is so long that by that time I may went have lost interest/it may not suit my needs anymore.

In short I just don't understand why someone would put up with it, Jam tomorrow etc etc

But you aren't waiting.
You put your name on a list and get on with your life.
Some point you get a call asking if you want your watch, if you no longer want it, you say no thanks
Most people have other watches, it's not as if they need it and life isn't on hold
But he is waiting.

He put his name on a list and is now waiting for his name to get to the top of the list.

He may not be biting his nails, but, nonetheless, he is waiting, within the meaning of the act.
