One of my watches retails at over £30k. It goes in the plastic tray with everything else. Strange thread...

50/50 whether I set the scanners off. I don't remove my Sub unless requested to do so. If so, it'll go in a bag or pocket, out of sight.

I do 40-50 flights a year. Everything goes in the tray. Never had or seen an issue.

Watch, wallet and fitbit always go inside my manbag which goes in the tray...I once saw a guy lose a Daytona whilst he was being searched someone took it at the other end....not worth the risk IMHO.

He was shouting and screaming about his watch being stolen...someone asked him what it was and I heard him say a Rolex Daytona and that he will be screwed as it is worth more than its insured for redface

I have heard a couple of reports of watches going missing from the tray, last one being noted on TZ in March which was a Rolex going through Luton

Yep an odd one, but bear with me.

I do alot of traveling, so frequently pass through airport security with my watch. I always find myself in two minds. Do I leave it in my bag as it passes through, or do I set it on the tray for all to see.

I'm not the owner of anything particularly fancy (Tudor) but I still hope it makes it through to the other end without getting damaged or half inched.

Most of the time I pack it in my bag, but never forward plan and leave an empty (scratch free) pocket.

Ok so it's not quite an interesting topic, but how do those Rolex and equivalent owners deal with it? Any dramas? Is it a tense time for you? :-p
Your concern is understandable. Personally, I put it in my briefcase. Which brings the value of my briefcase to quite a lot sometimes. Then I watch it carefully and try to stop the security monkeys delaying me.

Nothing strange about it, chap. You simply look after your belongings, my grandad taught me that.

Regardless of your income. wink

Flying out of Houston airport a couple of years ago I recall the TSA official telling people what to put in trays “laptops, iPads and liquids in the tray - if you have a Rolex I’m happy for you, but I don’t care, keep it on your arm”

Surely no one with a half decent watch flies from Luton ...

You missed the point - Gameface wants us all to know/believe he has a 30k watch.

Well done Gameface!!!

Grow up.

Theft during the few moments it goes through the scanner is simply not something I've ever thought about.

And now I have, it will still go in the tray.

It's a total non issue for me.

I hate taking my watch off at airport security. I always put everything in my jacket pocket if I can. However, I was at Schiphol once and put my jacket back on and my pockets were not secured. I watched my phone fly across the security hall and land on the hard floor....fked. Luckily it wasn't my watch......

Of course it is a non issue when 30k means nothing to you. Big shot.

I think the chance of theft is almost nil but the chance of damage is worth a thought. I pass through airport security about 4 times a week. I see bored security staff leave conveyors running. Sometimes the trays pile up and flip over. Seeing watches get jammed into the rollers or tipped out, makes me wince.

I always put mine into my bag first.

I leave my watch on my wrist, doesn’t create an issue with the walk through. Left my belt on in error recently and that didn’t either. The scanner pulls random checks very frequently so even if you are metal free it still goes off. I fly loads.

And a lot of these 5000 posts have been offering advice and help to others.

Others in this post have mentioned the type of watch they have and what they do with it in the situation the OP has asked advice for. This, unless you are jealous, should be seen as showing context. I for example will throw G-Shock (regardless of rarity and therefore value) in the tray, my nice watches of which im talking Up to £10kish either go in a pocket on their own in my bag so hidden but available, or on my wrist and i accept i will be searched.

I always used to put mine in the tray until a TSA guy told me it wouldn’t set the alarm off. Never taken it off since going through security.

Always been absolutely fine.
