Hi
Mrs wants to get me a submariner for a big birthday and we have found a mint unmarked boxed one in our local jewellery shop for £5800 (non date). They are an established firm for generations , known as clock makers and service Rolex (and other premium brands ) unofficially. They will guarantee the watch for a year and seviced prior to sale. The question I ask is do lack of papers make much of a difference to price?

The list price is £5750 for a brand new No Date Ceramic Sub I picked mine up on Friday only 6 weeks after putting a 20% deposit down with my local AD on Bond St.

Why pay over list price for a watch that has no papers?

Personally I would be happy knowing I had a brand new one on order for my birthday rather than having a second hand one with no papers on the day. But each to their own.

Depends whether it’s a new ceramic or if it’s a 14060m, then if it’s a 2 liner or 4 liner.

If it’s the new model then as above, may as well get a brand new one with box & papers.

I know some people on here will say you are buying the watch not the papers

IMO with a watch like a Sub which has a good resale value / investment side it's worth having papers. You never know if you will have to sell it.

If we were discussing an entry level Tag/Longines I would say papers are not crucial

You are not likely to sell if it marks a big birthday anyway, so resale is not really an issue.

Just make an offer and budget for a Rolex service some time in the future, so you have the service papers at least.

Problem is only 1 dealer in northern ireland and they are not taking deposits as waiting list is too long and can't get the watches to fulfill their orders, think it's into a number of years

See if they will send it off to Rolex for a service as part of the deal, that way you get the Rolex 2 year gurantee and service papers.

Box and papers are usually worth around £500. It sounds like they have already built that into the price as mint pre-owned non-Date ceramic Subs are going for a premium over new,

I'd snap it up. This one is a lot more than the one you've spotted.
