Just to say you are right there are 95 s/steel Daytona,s for sale on Chrono24 (i take it thats where you have seen them) but there are only 3 for sale in the uk!!

And scarily, the cheapest 116520 on Chrono24 is £16k. Mine was £7.4k from Miltons in Chester in Nov 2013. I’d no idea what was going to happen, and I had the choice of two or three old Pepsi GMTs at around £3.5-4K too! Heady days lol.

I certainly wouldn’t buy one now. Can’t afford it, can’t afford to lose thousands ‘if’ the zit bursts.

I think your figures are a bit adrift.

Just to bring an update not only are my figures not adrift the Rolex price 'bubble' aka gouging is alive and well in 2020. The watch I paid 3K for 12 years ago is now worth double that despite me reducing it's value by looking at it outside it's box. biggrin

I keep getting offered good money for my GMT, I have at least doubled it (and couldn't be bothered selling it).

Some great points being made and a lot of things that I had not considered.
Here is my experience
Went to our local AD and was very well treated and was shown several watches that fitted my budget . Explained I would like a ROLEX and they were very open
Sub with date or black GMT II within a few months
Hulk Probably within 1 year to 18 months
GMT pepsi 2 years or so
Daytona forget about it as they are simply not getting enough
So I have decided to buy a nice watch until my preferred Rolex arrives. Tudor GMT or Chrono

My cousin enquired on the phone to his local Ad and within 10 days was offered a
Yachtmaster II
Sub with Date
GMT II
He bought the GMT II

My persona thoughts after speaking to our AD is that they run a business and as such are looking for repeat business , hence why I will buy a Tudor form them. This will also help me get a more desirable model quicker
After all if you were an AD who would you sell
Someone who wants a Rolex is unlikely to buy again
Someone who buys watches and makes it know he wants another one

Sid
You can get a sticker for the Tudor off eBay and it makes it into a Rolex anyway good enough whilst you wait.

I know it’s a tad old but first ever watch, never been in the dealer before was a Ceramic Daytona (black / 2017).

I did hassle them a lot though.

Had a wimbledon DJ41 and my favourite batman (/girl actually).

Just like all bubbles, it will last as long as there is a greater fool.

Once the last fool walks off happy with his speculative "investment", then it will burst. It will happen, but with so much free money been thrown round supporting bubbles, it makes you wonder...
