I mix mine up quite a bit.

I have a Speedmaster Pro as daily office wear that does take a beating, but cleans up rather well, an early 80's Rolex Datejust for "special stuff" and a Brietling Avenger that I never wear as its fooking massive...

Then I have a bunch of Casios, a Christopher Ward, Victorinox and a Vostock I picked up years ago. I probably wear a mix of those last four as much as anything else.

I'm not precious, but I don't like wearing expensive watches in places where they could buy a small village.

Apart from being a touch insensitive, its adding risk that you don't need.
In 18 years of wearing my sub it’s only been commented on two or three times , your average man in the street doesn’t either know or care about watches.

Can’t agree with the adding risk comment at all , never heard anything like it.
The average man on the street probably recognises a Rolex these days especially if it's a sub. They're flashed all over Instagram. And crims are inspired by Insta, too.

I wear my Daytona and all other (6) Rolexes no matter what i do: sleep, play tennis, surf or just go to work.
24/7

I have to admit the two i wear most by far are the GMT pepsi (i new bought in 1994) and then Daytona.
Rolex insisted in changing the glass of the GMT this summer on it's 3rd service in 24years of service.

In the end, they are just watches in the end: your health is worth alot more. Enjoy!

Devil's advocate: or maybe they are too expensive for you? Isn't that the real question?

Cringe.

And people wonder why everyone says the watch forum is infected with bellends.

I suppose some people are over-protective of everything they own, some don’t give a hoot, and most of us are somewhere in the middle ground. I just know that if I wore any watch all day, every day at work, it’d be in for repairs fairly frequently and I’d be in hospital.

Monday to Friday I have an office job, so little chance of any damage, but on Saturdays I work at a garage - my Sub rarely comes off my wrist

That said, I recently bought a Tudor Black Bay Bronze just for a change from the Sub - the intention was that the Tudor would be more of a weekend casual "daily beater", but I haven't really gelled with it so far - Sub just feels "right" for more of the time

However, if I'm sticking my arm down a particularly tight engine bay, I'll always take my watch off, regardless of whether its a Sub or a cheapo Casio - I don't mind the occasional accidental knock or light scratch, but there's no point in risking more serious damage, such as cracked crystal or a broken crown

I wear my 1956 GMT master daily and I believe it's quite valuable. Its unrestored and on a dark green NATO strap so doesn't look like much unless you know what you're looking for.

The only thing I take my sub off for is downhill mountain biking otherwise it stays on for all other activities, gardening, fishing, decorating - they look better with a few chips and dings to my mind.

My Doctor suggested a prostate exam was required.

Come the fateful day I noticed he removed his Rolex first, I'm not too sure if it was his benefit or mine but we both had a chuckle about it.....

I think it's a fair question. The primary reason why I don't wear a decent watch for rock climbing is because I can't afford to have it wrecked and requiring extensive repairing. If I win the Eurolottery, I'll probably wear a £30k Patek with impunity. smile

Thanks Hoofy - i indeed did not mean to sound nasty or whatever...just a fair question and def did not intend on hurting anyones feeling

I personally cannot "afford" a Patek hence wouldn't purchase one and wear it like i wear my Rolex(es).
I can buy one tomorrow (30-40k£)...but would not feel comfortable and would be worried wearing it as it is meant to: to give the time 24/7
But yes i can write off a Rolex (10-15k£) and not blink (that would suck indeed, but it wouldn't hurt me in any way, just walk in the dealer and buy another one)

Different levels for different people

I wear a rose gold sky dweller with choc face 95% of the time. Yellow gold day date 2 with black face the other 5%.

I personally wouldn't want to buy something I didn't use.

For balance I put 27,000 miles on my Range Rover Sport SVR in my first year - certainly done my nuts on it but in my opinion, same as a watch, no point in buying a car to look at smile

Expensive and cheap at the same time. 'Cheap' is because I have a lot of spare parts and can fix it myself - and because of that and the rather solid and hopefully low breakability nature of it, I tend to wear it for most things.

I wear my Rolex Explorer pretty much exclusively. I did recently buy a Seiko just to have another option. I only really remove the Explorer if I am doing some sort of manual labour, tinkering with my classic Mercedes or perhaps some DIY.

I have owned it 5.5years and am still really careful with it, but I see no point in having a (what seems to be now a) £5k watch if I don't wear it.

My Speedmaster I am happy to wear anywhere (which is on a black nylon strap). It's pretty under the radar and only WIS would really notice.

When I had the Rolex Sub (LV) I felt a bit conspicuous at work being very green and shiny, often found I wanted to hide it under my shirt cuff. A few people did comment on it and I wasn't sure that was a good thing tbh.

For swimming/sauna/steam room I use my G shocks - tough as old boots.

I now have an apple watch so that has replaced the Speedy for office duties, just very handy to have the notifications

Ha, good taste sir. I also wear a Speedy Pro as my daily and have a 1970 Datejust for special occasions (got a bit of the usual bracelet stretch which I need to get sorted but never seem to get round to it).

Just bought one of these as a holiday watch:

I find the Black Bay to be a bit too chunky compared to a Sub.

There is inevitably some peacocking, but there's also a huge array of timepieces to look at and see in context, which I think is quite valuable. I lusted after an IWC Portugese for years. And then I tried it on and it just looked awful on me. Brassy and brash and soooo not me. I like older watches because they have smaller faces and suit my skinny non-powerfully built wrists better.

FWIW I generally buy a Swatch at the airport when I go on holiday. I love them! I have quite a collection now and doff my cap to the way they ace the design again and again and again.

I wear my Datejust almost every day. Though after putting a couple of nasty scratches in the glass doing DIY, I do now take it off if I'm about to go grubbing around in a tight space.
