Hi guys,

Firstly, i know next to nothing about watches, other than the famous watch brands, which, is why i'm in this section of PH.

Would anybody be able to give me some pointers on the legitimacy of this watch/information & a rough value?

I wasn't really looking for a watch, however saw this one & quite liked it, a watch connoisseur i am not.

Thanks,

Each to their own and all that however, to be frank, that's ghastly vomit It has all the hallmarks of a cheap fashion watch rather than something with any genuine credentials.

As for value, it may be worth something to a Gumball die-hard however that's it, I very much doubt that the sum of the parts + quality = anywhere near the asking price. Not only that but the advert describes the watch as being from last year's event - 2018 was London to Tokyo, London to NYC was, from memory, 2010/11.

The watch is an A083 Nixon

Plenty of new(non gumball) ones on Ebay for sub £200

and used ones go for sub £100

I doubt the gumball association increases its value for one with a scratched glass to £750

Not an expert here either but that price seems nuts considering their watches are normally only a couple of hundred quid. On the plus side, I do like it!

Well that was my thinking, i know the person who's selling it & they've offered it to me for considerably less than it's up for, which, made me firstly contest the legitimacy of it, secondly made me think it's not worth anything either.

That’s not very nice from where I’m standing. Much nicer kit around for nearly a grand!

I really dislike watches that have the sub dials squashed together in the middle of the dial like this one, and everything else about it obviously so I'd pass OP

This. It's because they use cheap movements designed to fit into a broader rangeof cases.

It's quartz, it's nasty and it comemorates something which, presumably, you had nothing to do with.

Nope.

Not keen on that at all. Apart from the name, which is associated with a dodgy president, it looks like it was made by B&Q. Sorry but that's my thoughts.

Sorry if I was negative but you did ask for opinions! Nixon have some nice looking watches but they are basically a fashion brand. You're paying a lot for questionable quality. For that sort of money there are much better made watches to choose from. Especially second hand. Spend some spare time and have a look through the Wrist Check thread for last year.

For £750 you could get some proper vintage watches or if that's not your bag, a modern watch with genuine horological credentials. There are dozens of vintage Omega Cosmics, Constellations, even some Seamasters for sale around that mark. Just as an example.

Nixon is nothing but a fashion brand and Gumball is more of the same really.

Neither have any sort of watch connections.

That said if you like it, buy it. Nothing worse than a watch snob.

Wouldn't that have been a boat race?
