As it's back to holiday time again I'm looking for a replacement cheap holiday watch, I know the F-91W is the pinnacle but just want something a little different to the casio/GShock types. I have a £100 budget, it's got to be waterproof and a little rugged but not full on SAS military type. Any suggestions please.
Casio Duro at less than £50 is the obvious answer as it was previously!

I've never fully understood the holiday watch thing - why wear a nicer watch at home/work than during one of the more special times of the year...?
Quite a few reasons.

The main one being it’s an excuse to buy a new watch.
Perhaps one’s daily watch isn’t water resistant, should the rented chateau have a pool.
It might be too nice (thief magnet) for unfamiliar salubrious surroundings
Or maybe look good with a suit, but a little OTT with shorts and flip flops. Perhaps a bit of colour to express one’s playful, relaxed holiday nature.
It’s often more agreeable to wear a bracelet or a NATO band rather than a leather strap.

I can’t buy into many of those reasons.

If one has a collection, there should be something in there to cover most eventualities surely….and ensure you book somewhere nice for your holiday. wink

What was that brand that got mentioned a year or so ago, who were making cheap colourful holiday watches for the beach/pool for about £50 each, and the company had a funny/smutty name?

I can't find them at all, but I'm sure someone on here will remember them!

Haha, yeah, I quite agree. I have several options in the ‘collection’ that work.

My normal go-to is a cheap Quartz diver for daytimes and a cheap GADA watch on a bracelet for the evenings.

It's not only the prospect of a violent theft (anything could happen!), it's also that some watches are almost irreplaceable.

I will be in short sleeves for my holiday and therefore not wearing one of my more expensive watches - too risky unfortunately.

Only one cheap and cool (well I think) watch fits the 'travel/holiday & water proof brief' - Argos have them for £25!!

For this very reason I wear a Seiko 5 on a Nato for holiday "walking around, ambling aimlessly duties". I insist SWMBO wears zero bling and saves that for when we're out (cab to venue, cab back).

It's not that I have a particularly expensive watch, it's just it's priceless to me and getting it knicked on holiday would be all sorts of sh!te.

That Seiko 5 or my Garmin Fenix 5 gets put on for step count duties....

My default travel watch would be my Garmin Instinct .. useful for hiking , waterproof and does not look very valuable.

Alternatively I wear an older Casio G shock that is not too bulky ..

Neither are magnets for muggers or thieves smile - and if I lost or broke one, it is not so valuable to be a huge issue.

Great watches , water resistant though , think "waterproof" is 20bar or 200m

MW-240 has to be the analogue equivalent to the F-91W. Cheap, light, 50m waterpoof...only downside is no date.

True, ok in the sea and pool, obviously not a dive watch by any stretch, but won't be going anywhere near 200m! biggrin

This €40 Quartz ‘diver’ survived snorkeling in the Walchsee down to the colossal depths of 6 metres.

No ingress, still ticking away happily. A quartz diver is pretty much the perfect HW

I'm after purchasing the Casio MDV-106 but can anyone recommend a decent silicone strap for it, as the reviews give the watch a good thumbs up, but the strap not so much!

Thanks
James

Got a couple of them for my wife's sport watch, have quick releases and seem to be holding up well.
