To be fair you are right in what you say,but like you it does not bother me as im in the position that i dont have kiss ass to get a watch! Although i did have to wait 2 months to get my steel daytona

I’ve had a Rolex, Tudor, and misc. jewellery from my AD, and they can’t put a time frame for ‘my’ LV.

This is what you should do.

It doesn't matter whether or not you want to buy anything else from the AD. The trick is to spend, spend, spend on other things, then casually drop the hint that you might be interested in buying a Rolex at some point in the future, should the dealer decide that you are worthy.

If you are attractive, try going to the shop and winking at the dealer whilst slowly, seductively removing your clothing. If you're unattractive, try threatening to remove your clothing if they don't sell you that Rolex.

Offer to take the dealer out to lunch. A swanky London hotel should do it. Or better still, invite them to holiday with you in your South of France villa. All expenses paid. Rent one for the occasion if necessary, the more bedrooms the greater your chance of buying that Rolex. Any villa you chose should have at least one indoor and one outdoor pool and be close to the sea. Hire a Michelin starred chef for the week. Preferably a T.V. one.

Offer the dealer a massage. With lovely scented oil and a smorgasbord of tantalising extras.

Remember, this isn't just a watch, it's an investment, an unobtainable goal, an overt means to signal to your fellow man that you have made "it", that you have impeccable and discerning taste, that you take quality seriously.

Prostrate yourself at your AD's mercy! Drop your pants and expect and enjoy a jolly rogering, whilst they empty your wallet. But prepare yourself for disappointment, because that's how the veblen effect works. It's necessary for you to do all this. The harder you try, the harder the dealer must make you try. The closer you get, the further away your goal is moved. But that's good, because it just makes you want it more.

I thought that they might have changed in recent years, although your comment 'Remember, this isn't just a watch' summed it up for me. It also reminded me of one of the highstreet's main retailer's adverts, now, who was that again?

I'm obviously lucky in that some, in fact most, of my other watches are fairly good at allowing me to know what the time is, so I can happily let some of the pretentious sales people live in their own little bubbles without missing out on the latest must-have timepiece.

Nice watches, IMHO, but what a fuss. It reminds me how some of the 'prestige' car dealers used to be (years ago); now the same 'brands' will happily allow anybody into their showrooms if they think there's a chance of a signature on a finance form. Funny old world.

AD i was in the other day said 6 months for a no-date and a year for a date version, could b'é sooner if stock comes in that the person on the "list" no longer wants.
